Need help from you guys on buying my first EVO!

Here is the add for it..

http://norfolk.craigslist.org/car/584571803.html

A couple of things that i found out.

The carfax reports 2 owners. The first owner in the matter of 2 months put 5k miles on it. The first owner had a new clutch, pressure plate installed about right at 5k. Which means (i think) that guy did not know how to drive the car or he ragged the dog **** out of it and had to get a new clutch/pp installed. It was done under warrenty, and the warrenty is still intact, confirmed by Mitsubishi dealership.

Anywhoo, Edmunds says the TMV for the car is $21k. KBB says $22k. Both clean condition, RS with 28k miles. I got the stealership to go down to 23k out the door.

As far as condition, it was very clean. The guy put boost and a/f guage, but left it uninstalled. It has HKS TT, infinity tweeters and a priemer headunit (pioneer?).

Anyways. let me know what you guys think about the car. Am i getting a fair deal? am i getting ripped? should i be worried? What else should i be looking for if i know that the clutch has been replaced?

OH btw...

it had some sort of slot on the lower dash, right above where the knee would be. Its above the obdII port screwed in. You can slighty see it in the pics. What is that?

Thanks EVO gurus, as i hope to be a future evo owner real soon.

-Dan

Does it have the stock boost gauge cluster that all RS's came with? Also seeing as how it has a wing its probably not an RS unless he put it on himself.

Did you check all worm clamps for signs of being taken apart and put back together.

There is a thread somwhere that give you a run down on what to look for when buying an evo. As a matter of fact read this.

I almost forgot, IMO, keep looking. Even though a clutch being toasted within that many miles isnt out of the ordinary. Mine was done at about 9k then I put in the Exedy Twin HD

That's not an RS, so you might be getting a better deal than you originally thought.

thats not an RS it has power windows. and clutch failure is common in these cars, though thats kinda early for it to give out. personally i think it isn't a bad deal and it looks clean for the price, a clutch replacement shouldnt be that bad. just make sure everything else checks out.

I also agree that it seems like a good deal but I would definitely get it inspected. It still has its factory warranty so that is going for you. Seeing as it is a 2006 IX with only 28k miles that is also another plus.

thats not an hks tt its an apexi http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...&cat=28&page=1

as others have said some of the history sounds fishy,
why would a car that new have 2 owners unless somethings wrong with it.
Price doesn't sound too bad but I'de be weary.

what ever you do good luck

Thats a good deal, i got the same exact car for $22k with 16k miles on it, but from a private party. You're getting a good deal from the dealership.

i would do it that is seriously a good deal (at least take it for a drive). and if anything did go wrong with it you have the warranty. The price that most people buy a used ix for is anywhere from 25k-29k. this would leave you with some extra cash if something did happen to go wrong and warranty didnt cover

If a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is. Just make sure you get it looked at by an independent shop.
