I basically agree with David Buschur .... the focus should be on what we get for the $ .... or how much quantity, as well as quality achieved for the buck .... instead of focusing the power-making difference between the Xede, S-AFC, vs. Works reflash, for instance.
If at all possible, a custom tune on a dyno with wideband o2 is the only way to go ... IMO of course.

IIRC, the owners of each respective shop will have to do the driving duties which might bode poorly for us in the drag race competition
My money is on Rhys for the road course competition. Waitasec... did I just bet against myself?
cheers,

Still hold the record and bet Dugs *** until he took off the muffler. Full int..
My bets on Rhys for the road course but with you in the car I don't think he's going to win by much. David should be able to do the drag strip very nicley.
Looks to be a close one here..
Somthing worth doing!!!

Two thumbs up to Buschur and Vishnu for stepping up..
I'm curious to see if we had them all at one place, same dyno, same day, to see who's over the counter package provides the most benefits to the EVO. And considering the positive and possible negative outcome to any vendor, they both are very positive about what they have to offer!

It seems to me that Vishnu always steps up, shows some confidence in their products. I am glad to see Buscher throwing their hat into the ring as well, but where is WORKS? Hmmm......I seem to have heard this same question before.

connects to the stock cat. I'm running a 3" test pipe so I had to extend my test pipe about 2" to make it fit. It was easy .... local muffler shop did for me for $50. Just needed an additional flange. You wouldn't have to worry about it if you stay 2.5" on the test pipe or high flow cat, but I already had a 3" RMR test pipe laying around so I had to use it. The awesome build quality, performance, and sound of the Thermal make up for the hassle associated with elliminating the pipe diam fluctuation.
Dam Cali laws are designed to make Suppliers that sell 'stand alone' cat-backs taper the end just before the cat, unless the stock cat is the same size which is highly unlikely. WORD TO THE WISE people if you buy one of these ... be ready to do a tiny bit of custom work if u plan to run a 3" test pipe or high flow cat, unless u don't care about pipe diam fluctuations of course.
could we have this one in Southern California?
SHIV, if you see this...ive been DYING to get at your stage zero / XEDE...but im in LA, and wouldn't trust anyone but Vishnu itself to do the Vishnu work (i.e., and not the authrized tuner down here).
I was up in the Bay last weekend, but didn't take the Evo up there unfortunately.
Anyhow...ill keep checkin to see bro. Thanks

Probably should not be held in CA. Using only 91 octane fuel and fuel maps is not what a majority of the US customer base will be doing. You should always conduct general tests with the majority in mind, not the minority.
the test should be conducted in a place where 93 octane pump fuel can be purchased.

I disagree. Firstly, three of the nation's largest EVO tuners are located in California, including Vishnu, WORKS, and Rhys Millen Racing. California may have a less than optimal 91-octane fuel, but this is relevant particularly to those tuners who MUST work under this framework. Pragmatically, it would be wiser to focus on the local market before branching out further.
That you should aways conduct general tests with the majority in mind raises issues of utility, and doing the most good for the most people. In that 91-octane tuning would include California, AS WELL as other states, it would benefit MORE people than a policy that would EXCLUDE such a large portion of the aftermarket business in general.
It is true tuning for higher octane fuel may allow for a greater level of performance, but that is something that even tuners in California are aware of and take account for. Vishnu's XEDE mapping has settings not only for 91-octane, but also for 93-94.
It does not have to be the case that including 91-octane tuning would exclude higher octane tuning. it IS the case, however, that tuning for 93-94 octane would exclude all of us Californians.
Tuning for non-Californians would not be wise for ANY tuner. Rather, Vishnu's approach of tuning for BOTH would prove to be a much more encompassing approach. Remember, California may be only one state out of 50, but its a HUGE state with VASTLY more people (and EVO's) than, lets say, Ohio. No offense Bushcur
But also, the reason i believe the meet should take place in Southern California is multifold:
1) You can't beat the exposure. Not only are the substantially more EVO's in Southern Cali than anywhere in the nation, but there is a substantial general aftermarket community, which would provide for a solid advertising opporunity even to those who do not have the pleasure of driving an EVO.
2) Sunny southern California is beautiful, and the hard working tuners that are taking their cars and equipment such long distances might as well make an enjoyable trip out of the experience.
3) The 91-octane and hot weather would allow for tuning and performance under the WORST CASE SCENARIO. The result under better conditions could only get better. Better to err on the side of underestimation than overestimation.
Shiv, David, Dan, Rhys...i hope this gets to you
