I went to check out a 06 evo mr with not even 4k miles on it. The mitsu dealership wanted 28k. SO i chekcked it out and it had oil on the oil filter and oil pan which i understand may not have been wiped down. So we finally go for a test drive, and every time i go to 3rd and 4th gear, all you hear is crunch crunch crunch. I was shocked and didnt want to even drive it anymore. It hurt me to keep shiftin. Only 4k and needs maybe new tranny. they said if i really wanted it they could have a new tranny by next week. Should i still buy it or give up on this one? thanks for ur help
Its hard to say.If its still under warranty and they are willing to fix it than it doesn't sound horrible. It could be a good deal and it could be the worst deal ever.Your choice but I would probably do like the others have said and pass.

whatever evo you buy will eventually have its transmission act up. the transmissions in our cars are total crap and everyone knows it.
i wouldn't be too worried about it, especially if they're willing to give you a new transmission (which will eventually grind anyway)

Assuming the transmission is all that's wrong, that's not a bad idea. Say if they replace it with the 5-speed, you'll pay $28.5k. Or even $29k. That wouldn't be a bad idea, since it would hypothetically be a solid setup off the dealership lot.
