Getting the best 1/4 time out of my MR
Getting the best 1/4 time out of my MR
I have an 06 Evo IX MR with tune, intake and exhaust. At the track, the best 1/4 time I've gotten so far is 13.513 @ 105.57. I've heard some stock MR's have seen as low as 13.4, and tuned ones often run in the high 12's.
I'd like to see my times come down, and I've only been to the track twice. So I was wondering what people would suggest for launching, shift points, and shifting technique.
I've been launching at 5500 while slipping the clutch to prevent the tranny from slamming, shifting at about 7000 (I think i should probably shift a bit lower, max revs with tune is 8006), and have been avoiding powershifting.
What are would other people suggest?

well with your parts and a tune u should be around a mid to high 12.. i had my 06 mr stock do a 13.2 and with a fuel pump intake and a tune i did a 12.8 but as your launch goes 5500 sounds fine i launch at 6000 and i shift at 7k also so i think ur shifting is probly a little on the slow side IMO so just keep practicing and shift really fast
With a similar setup (tubular mani, O2, downpipe, stock cat and cat back, tune) I netted a 12.9 @ 106. So, your trap is probably okay for the mods and you can pick up time with driving.
How is your 60'?
Also, try shifting at different RPM to see how your trap speed changes. I think you could get a 107+ if you maybe held out to 7300 or so in 2nd and 3rd. You aren't shifting to 5th, are you?

I trapped 113 in my MR last week with a 7800 rpm rev limiter, 6K rpm stationary rev limiter. I shift at 7K and don't shift to 5th but I think I'm going to try since I'm out of 4th gear. With a better 60ft I think I should be low 12's.

These trannies aren't weak my any means. Your best run will pretty much feel like your about to break your car. With my old 3065 I ran a 11.5 spinning through 1st and 2nd (best '60 was a 2.01) stock 6 speed was trapping 127 in 5th.
what do your 60s look like. NED is a slow track, with not the greatest prep, so its tough to get them down sometimes.
I have my 2 step set around 5700, i would have it higher but just end up spinning.
I have an exedy twin, and no clutch restrictor pill. last wendesday i cut a 1.78 60ft on a fairly new set of Advans.
for comparison I just ran a 12.6 with these mods on pump gas:
boost pill removal at BCS ~23PSI,
Base flash from Jestr (M1)
I run a Megan Test Pipe and Down pipe
shifting - 1-2 i shift by feel, 2-3 and 3-4 i shift ~7600
edit: i don't recommend power shifting. i didn't notice any difference in my ETs powershifting/flat footing 3-4.
not sure why your trap is so low? if you have a dyno tune, and a full exhaust.

Launch control set to 5000-5500, make sure you build boost first and keep your foot to the floor..7000 is a good shift point mabye a bit earlier even..Intake exhaust and tune should be low 12's on an EVO 9..Mabye check your tune and get some practice..
Just FYI I ran 12.2@114 with only tune and exhaust on my MR and it's an 8 not a 9, which should be even faster. No need to power shift just shift very fast while using the clutch, you WILL need to beat on the car but they can handle it.
