Mucho Problemo
that's a hydraulic jack right?
i had a similar craftsman one, it was a piece of garbage. eventually the seals went on the hydraulic system, and it wouldn't get the car more than an inch lifted up.
do yourself a favor, and buy a quality mechanical "race" jack. i bought one from costco for $99. it's aluminum, and 4 - 5 pumps of the handle to full jack extension, and it has a plastic insert in the jack arm that doesn't dent up the pinch welds at the factory jack points on the side.

Okay, I bought a jack and 2 stands kit for $60 at Advanced. It is a small 2 ton and I've used it for every install on my car to date. I max it out everytime and will buy a better one some day, but it is fine for getting the car in the air. Where are you jacking up the car?
Rear: Use the rear diff as the pinch welds are not ideal there for a floor jack. I use the control arms where it connects to the chassis for the stands. Fit fine. Never slipped.
Front: Pinch welds where it is doubled over, mentioned in the user manual. They will have two notches in them. Do it not on them, but where it is thickest along the little "rail", closer to the front of the car. I place jack stands not on the notches, but somewhere close to the front. Make sure you get stands that will contour to the welds nicely so they don't fold over. If you want, I can show you photos of mine.
I tried using my little jack to jack up from the front lifting point under the engine (you can only do it when the undertray is removed), but the car wouldn't lift as far and probably isn't as sturdy as doing one side at a time.
Hope that helps. You can do anything with the wrong tools for the job, if done the right way.

Rhino ramps work on an Evo with stock suspension and make most jobs very easy I would always use a ramp over a jack if doing something like changing the oil or exhaust.
However, after I lowered my Evo I bought a set of Race Ramps and never looked back - www.raceramps.com

All hydraulic jacks have oil in them for the hydraulics to work. If you jack is not performing right you check the oil ,fill as necessary and bleed out the air as per manufacturer recommendations. Of course its also a closed system so if your losing oil the jack is probably going out.
yeah ramps are a great idea, but are a bit large for storage. anyways you could put a piece of wood, either under the tire if you cant slide the jack under the car, or on the jack to lift it higher.

its not getting the jack to work, it wont raise the car to where i can put the jack stands underneath it.
