Why would they bother to go through all the trouble of putting on a Vlll body kit on a Vll? They could just get a Euro-spec Vlll, or they could have just swapped out the lights.

The evo's were WEAK!
WHy was there a VII even allowed? Why not a full race Skyline r34 if they are going to allow that. I was pissed that the s2k beat the evo's by a significant margin. The EVO's didn't even have decent suspension stuff.
Of course a nearly stock evo can look good against those other cars that had mucho dinero in them. I want to see an EVO with mucho dinero in it STOMP the comp.
And how did conebasher come in ahead of the vishnu? Only because it out accelerated in the top end because of all that horsepower making it complete the course faster. In all the other tests the vishnu beat the wrx. And you know cobb has unlimited budget and r&d in the conebasher, not to mention hours of track time. The evo's did well, but there should have been one there that raped everything else.
Mad props on the comptech s2k though. It is a beast!

I watched the program today and the EVO did a pretty good job. You just need to take a look at the $ tied up in the S2000 and the Cobb Subaru. You might also want to consider that the drivers of the cars did pretty good as well.
My take on the program is that the Vishnu showing was very good given the limited modification to the stock car.
For the record what were the specific mods on the RMR and Vishnu cars? (The magazine is not in the stores yet....)
Also the program was a good place to get a feel for the sound of the respective exhaust system offerings. While comparison is not really possible given we don't know where the recordings were taken, the RMR system seemed more aggressive than the Vishnu.

What's to ***** about? It's not like Shiv's car came in last. There were a number of other reputable tuners there with other cars that no one is mentioning. Bottom line is that for the money, Vishnu placed exceptionally well. I am more than satisfied with their showing.
I see no relevance to real world street driving in a demonstration of tuner showcase vehicles with modifications costing more than the base price of the vehicles themselves. Are you gonna buy one? Didn't think so. So the bragging rights would never be yours anyway.
One last call from earth, there are a number of cars available, that with similar budgets would smoke anything that came that show. Give John Lingenfelter your LS1 Camaro and 50K and see what happens.

How many cars were in the competition? I do see mention of how good or bad the Evos did but I am curious if there were a lot of cars there or a small group.

The fact that our stage 1 Evo did so well on approx $2500 worth of mods(minus wheels) we think was pretty good. We also had 2 weeks total to get the car together as this test was done 3 months ago. We had originally submitted our stage 2 WRX as featured in last months Sport Compact Car, but decided after we purchased our Evo to try to make it to the Car and Driver test with it instead. Car and Driver was happy to include it as at that time there were 2 other WRX entries (who didn't show) already in the tuner shootout. Next time we will be ready with a little more extreme version of the Evo. Take care guys.

Another thing to take in to consideration is that the RMR EVO8 is not a evo 8 its a EVO 7 converted to 8 so mabe the extra drive train helped out a bit but I think both cars are bad *** and both companys know what the hell they are doing
Hey Brett why does Car and Driver say your stage 1 kit cost $1995
Is that not the same stage 1? Boost control feature, Cam gears installed? Or was the price not yet determined?
Anyways, the race consist of 130mph and then 0mph for total time determined by the winner not a set distance from start to finish like in a real race. Perhaps if there was a starting line to finish line the evo would of won?
