Car and Driver TV Results

More or less what I heard is that while the modified S2000 was number one the cost was out of line. The RMR while 2nd was difficult to drive on the street. The Cobb Tuning car was over $80K and placed 3rd. Vishnu's 4th place finish was respectable given the low investment and the fact it was still streetable (is that a word?).....

When members of this forum have their cars in the low 11s/high 10s for 4k those results are pretty disappointing. Also, AWD on a oval does nothing but rob power and thats backed up by the RMR car winning in road course time.

Saw it... It comes down to the fact that RMR lost due to a grabby clutch it seems...

At first I wasnt gonna give my opinion to the car and driver tv show...I watched it yesterday and was sort of disgusted....then I saw this thread so figured why not??? Why did vishnus car bother showing up? Its a chipped and exhaust car..with some nice wheels and a rear sway bar....thats embarassing to himself and these cars...dont get me wrong...its a nice car and performs well....but come on...YOURE GOING ON TV....cant you find a bit of a more well rounded modified car to bring? If Im the guys at car and driver I would have said.....nice car kid come back when its modified...that car was basically stock...the competition was all heavily modified...if it was an excercise in showing how inexpensive you can make these cars perform....save that for the economy specials or make a side note to your upgraded car...they should have had at least a stage three or four...stage 0????? That tells us they werent ready for game day....not an all out tuner competition....why not have brought the works car? or one of the pruven cars??? makes no sense...good thing the rmr guys were there to save the day...shame on the guys at vishnu....this is seen throughout the world...I think they made a poor showing...but I give their PR guy a ton of credit...he managed to get them into a MAJOR publication with basically a stock car..imagine what he could do with a real tuner..

Ever think of this? They placed fourth. Fourth with only a 4k investment. Considering the cost of the other cars, this is a major achievement.

As for the comment about making Evos run 11's stock, good for them. This wasnt a drag test. Hell, you could get Evos into the 12's for free (just read this).

In the mag Shiv states that it was last minute thing. The rims were half of the 4k.

They could have just changed the rims to stock and used that 2k on some coilovers and got much better results at the track for the same amount.

Shame on RMR. Did you know that is an evo VII with evo VIII body work. The USDM and euro spec cars are different FYI. I'm sure ACD helped, but also rhy's driving Just look at the headlights. Non DOT reflectors on the RMR's car.

I feel Vishnu did a great job. I've heard the temperature was hot and head winds slowing all the cars down. Would you guys just look at the details and not the results. Vishnu=stock boost RMR=22psi and 1/4mi about the same performance under those conditions.

The vishnu car had a 5 puck clutch and so does the RMR so it's a fair comparo between the two.

I'm sure Vishnu would bring their more powerful kit if they are ready. It's all about marketing. Why market something that is not ready for production yet. If you want a reason why i'm guessing it was a business decision.

Not on the 91 octane gas we all had to run.

FWIW, this test was conducted months ago, shortly after we first got our EVO. Sometimes people don't realize that magazines operate with a rather substantial lead time.

Cheers

Or better yet, will it be repeated again?

I like the show best when it was motor trend TV. I don't know why but it was the music or the announcer guy or something that made it more interesting. The current magazine crew or something just make the show boreing. I shouldn't say boreing but not as entertaining as before.

Too bad cobb tunning is having problems with thier over priced supercar. I wonder if it's the drivetrain problem or poor tuning for 91 gas
