Is 450 - 500 awhp realistic?

Yeah, I am a newbie so take it easy....

I like the styling of the STI and that it has CC but, I like that fact that the EVO is more mod friendly (as I have read, right?) and larger.

I am looking for a car that I can get roughly 500 awhp without spending another 30K. Is this possible or do I have my goals set too high?

Thanks

Why do you need 500 hp?

I'm pretty sure that unless you are a pro driver, 350 hp, which is fairly easy to attain, will be more than enough.

No, I don't think your goal is realistic at this time....if you want the motor to be reliable. But I think Al might think differently about my opinion.

Dave Buschur was talking about over 500 wheel HP for around $9K.

I'll throw out a guess of about $15k..

Crank 3k , Rods Pistons 2k, Turbo 2k, Intercooler 1k, Management 2k, 3k in asssorted bits.

It depends....

1) Are you talking race gas?
2) Do you care about lag?
3) Is nitrous a part of the equation?
4) Is reliability a concern?

If you answered no to 1,3,4 or yes to 2, then your answer is no - just one man's opinion....

Two factors in his equation. Cost and Power. Power >= 500 and Cost <= 30,000.
Doable. Write me a check for $29,900 and I'll do it for ya.

1) Yes, I would like the car to be reliable and streetable
2) No nitrous
3) Lag is not a big issue as long as I don't have to wait till 5000 rpm to get power
4) I need 450 - 500 awhp...b/c....umm...no real reason just a goal.
(side note: I have an RX-7 R2 (hence the screen name) with roughly 380ish to rear wheel) I was shooting for 400 but I fell a shy since I wanted responsive power over pure power. This time I just want power )

I am aware that money can buy anything. I just want to know the potential of the car. RX-7, Supra and Skyline for the most part can make insane amounts of power without putting another 30K to it. I have not seen an American WRXs or EVOs (though they are VERY new to the scene in the U.S.) that put down serious power or times in the 1/4 mile. I guess I am looking for another tunable hotrod with room for a family. The EVO and STI fit the bill but I want to know which has the most potential (read:450-500 awhp).

Thanks,

sounds like you just want a fast strait line car

go get a 03 cobra,, this car(evo) is an insane buy not just becuz its quick in a strait line (not super fast,, but quick enough) but because its got super suspention and breaking too.. all that together makes it a god car.. AND its mod friendly

sounds like you need to decide what you want to do... if your going to live at the 1/4 track. get a cobra, if you want to "drive" GET AN EVO!

I had a 1994 Rx-7 as well and I can say that the evo is a better car. The rx-7 was fun at 1st but it was hit or miss. The car would run good maybe 1 day a week then something would screw up with it. lol I had a NSX as well and I can say that the NSX had a better power band but I wanted 4-500 HP as well and that was going to cost about 20k witha TEC II computer a big turbo and a bored motor and I did not want to mess with that. I think with the EVO you can make good power and not have to mess with it as much as the RX-7. Also it does not have a seperator tank lol. Also 4 wheel drive is just too fun.

No, I want a fast car that can hold more than two people comfortably. A Cobra is great for "JUST" mod potential but I want something fun to drive, and a Cobra is not IMO.

Thanks for the informative responses. Any one know about the STI potential?

I bought my R2 new and I have not had any problems with it other than a bad tuner. The RX-7 is very delicate but if you tune it right it will run forever, atleast that is what my "personal" experience has been with the RX-7. I still have it and don't plan on ever getting rid of it, it is just too fun.

But I need room for kids so EVO or STI here I come

Screw Mustangs with a bat i funking hate mustangs i dont care if it IS a cobra they still suk. the new sti is way awesome with 300bhp and 300lb/ft torque its way rad and the sti and the evo are like brothers so whatever you want it a good choice all though the STi doesnt come with a radio. but if thats no big deal then thats cool

youll obviously need clutch, but brakes and suspension???

intercooler is good up to 450hp and most of those kits come with a downpipe, so youll need a midpipe and exhaust
