Lightbulb What moves you!?!

Hey I have been on Evom for quite sometime now, and I see more and more people selling their evos. Especially after a badass build, I mean sweet *** evos that are un touchable being sold. My question is why? I don't mean to be noisey, Im just thinking maybe if the answer to this question could help the other owners in preventing post build sales of the car everyone dreams of......I hear alot of "I hate to do it", " The time has come", "Its sad for me to say" Etc etc.....Anything us fellow evo owners can do to help aid in preventing the sale of either your car or ours in the future?......A side from making payments for it HAHA......

Is it reliability?
Is it Cost?
Un-employment?

Here sit on my leather couch and lets talk about it, just sit back and relax. Im here to listen....

I see a lot of people selling because they are getting married, having a kid, buying a house or some combination of the three. Power to the p%ssy is what it basically comes down to. I have said this before and I will say it again, no evil she devil is taking my f%^king car from me.

lots or reasons.
people get bored
people realize that the build is just gettin way too $
something new comes out and they just gotta have it.
some people just build something and know they wont use it to its full potential so they would rather let someone else who can buy it...

Well, it's a whole lot of fun at first, putting time and love and money into a car like an Evo. Its quick, looks hot, and gets lots of attention. You baby it at first, but then you start thinking, "Hey its not going to break" so you begin the upgrades. It starts doing things that you never thought it would do, more than your friends told you it could or would do. The more it does the more you love it. But it starts demanding more and more of your time and money, and before you know it, it wants to be your one and only. And then one day you wake up and realize, "Hey I just don't love you anymore and I'm not sure that I ever did. Get your crap and get out!"

Sorry... I started out talking about a car.

Well I'm a prime example of this... I can assure you it's the P***Y! I am married, going 1 1/2 years now but we've been together four about 4 years. I have an 05 EVO VIII!
I bought it brand new in 2005! I started putting some **** in there and installing this and upgrading here and there, finally I realized, I lost that new car smell. Then I see little things going wrong, in this case, nature F***ing up my ride!
All of a sudden "EVO X" comes out and my wife see's this!

That's it... That was that, now she says get the EVO X in Red and for me to sit down and color...

The end...

I don't think I will get rid of mine for a long time. I don't like driving an ordinary car even for a daily driver. I always like to have something unique. The only way I will get rid of it is if it starts to give me a bunch of problems or the wife or g/f makes me get rid of it for something safer for kids.

Alright, I'll share my story with you... But be prepared doc, it ain't for the faint of heart. Okay, it isn't that bad, but just know nothing the EvoM community could've done really would've stopped me from selling my car and its gonna be hella long. Like, an epic novel.

Mainly I guess you could just chalk it up to becoming bored, but truth be told, that definitely isn't the case, I would still be totally entertained in the Evo.

I had it for 3 years, it was wonderful, raced it lots. Never got too crazy with modding it, just a few things every few months (by the end I had NTO3+Ms with race slicks, JIC FLTA2s [which were near dead], Injent TBE, K&N drop-in, a decent stereo set-up, and a tune... 276 whp on a Mustang Dyno [stock was 207 for reference])

3,076 miles = Catastrophic engine failure due to oil starvation
Mitsubishi warranty = teh fail (for no real reason)
8k-ish dollars later = new 4g63 motor, not built, because Mitsu decided to delay telling me the warranty was denied.

Okay, things were good for about 2 years. (first girlfriend w/ the car loved the car, second one could care less)

TC failed, no apparent reason (still pretty sure the dealer put the wrong fluid in, no more dealers, ever, on any car), not a huge deal, but kind of a pain. Got the TRE built.

Fine fine fine....

Wheel studs on passenger front wheel sheer off Christmas morning of 2005. Wow, ouch. (Install was done by someone who everyone recommended, and who does good work, unless he's in a rush to get someone out because he's got higher paying customers to deal with). Fixed those with better strength and better install wheel studs.

Raced a few more times, kickin trash with race slicks on.

So, overall, ownership wasn't that bad, oil fluid changes, tc fluid changes and tranny fluid changes were routine (every 3k miles for all 3 fluids) but not a big deal.

What got annoying was driving it around town every day. It was a pita to dd, uncomfortable, noisy, rickety. Like a wooden roller coaster only less fun.

And then there was the problem with road trips, I was so scared that thing was going to explode any moment that planning a road trip, even to St George (far southern Utah) was like plotting how many places I could break down and how long a tow truck would take to get there. Granted, I went to Vegas and back more than 4 times in that thing just fine (other than something that was my fault) raced at Spring Mountain for the weekend (so, hard driving) and came back. Just fine. The point still stands that I was scared to death that the 3 diamonds would cause the car to randomly fail, because, it did before.

On top of all that, I loved the car, but so few other people did, and while I didn't care much, when people are avoiding riding with you at all costs just because of the car you drive, it gets a little annoying. My own mom wouldn't ride in it. Piloting people around town in that just felt stupid, it felt like too much of a sporty race car to haul anyone around in.

I graduated college last summer, so I decided it was time to get out of the car, put it up for sale. (This was like mid-May I think).

I didn't have many buyers looking at it, in case you care, but that's a side story.

Originally the idea was to get something like the G35x, more luxurious sedan. Test drove it, the IS250 and 350, the 328i and 335i and xi, and finally a TL-S. For the money, the TL-S was my favorite. I put a 1000 deposit on one the dealer would be getting in a month, and they planned (and did) spend the month trying to get the most to offer me on trade for the Evo.

I spent the month test driving all sorts of things. I've always wanted a Carrera, since my uncle had an old 993 cab. So I decided what the hell, I'll look at higher end cars. Before even getting deep into the Carrera search I found an 07 C6 w/ 3k miles on it for 39k. Snow and ice and other bad weather made me change my mind (thank God, I would've died this winter). So back to the Carrera, I test drove a 2000 Automatic, fell in love instantly, but I knew I'd hate the interior color and the automatic within an hour. Test drove a 2002 C4 Cab, manual, beautiful condition, 40k miles, came with a hardtop, the owner had spent thousands on a nice GPS stereo system and it was wonderful. Sadly, I hadn't sold the Evo yet. And later that week the car sold (it was a steal of a deal too...). Test drove another 2002 C2 and then finally a 2001 C2 (yellow, really nice looking, almost got it, but same problem, still had the Evo). Finally found this one at a dealer that offered me 2500 more for trade on the Evo then anywhere else (with the tax saving it almost pushed me to what I was asking). Drove it on a Saturday, bought it Monday. Other than the ease of modding, I don't miss a thing, not even the back seats (which, as said before, no one wanted to ride in anyway, so they were just used for the same thing the 2+2 "back seats" are used for: storage).

So basically, at the cost of a few things, I got something that IMO is a much better all-around performer. It does wonderful at the track (though with street tires on it is no where near as fast as the Evo) and wonderful around town, and of course, people are begging to ride in it, and drive it, and sit in it... Whereas, IMO the Evo did wonderful X2 at the track and 0 wonderful around town.
