You should have left the car there to start with. First you start with the service manager, politely but stern. Then the general manager same way and then Mitsubishi themselves. I can assure you if you get to the right person and are not a a-hole (not saying you are) then you will get the help you need. There is no way I would take my car from there until that harness was fixed.

If they broke something, it doesn't matter if it's modded or not.

Having Mods still doesnt mean it voids anything. They still have to prove a "Modded Part" caused the damage. I dont car what mods you have i dont know any that melts a Harness?

So isn't the first step in the factory service manual to disconnect the battery before any service is performed? Maybe it's just me but it seems that there would be more to this. Either the mechanic is lying, the service advisor is lying, the customer is lying or something. I am not accusing anyone but someone is lying. The car died and had to be towed into the dealership right? They apparently ran diagnostic and the computer indicated a bad cam angle sensor right? Well if the wire is severed or shorted out, then it would indicate a bad sensor! If the sensor was replaced and in the process the positioning of the wire was disturbed or the clamp was repositioned it may cause the very situation you are reading about here. I'm not a Mitsu rep and fortunately I have an awesome dealership and service rep here in Newport News VA. This has not always been the case. The dealer in Clarksville TN where I lived before was worthless. I had to prove to him that he had to do a recall on my car even though it was modded. (Coolant hose to turbo recall). Anyhow I am sorry to hear about your bad luck bro but they may be right.

Josh

I am going to bet money that the small tab that is on the large factory ground cable that attaches to the drivers side strut tower with a bundle of other ground wires is not hooked up.

you shouldve kept your car there..i personally had a problem with a customers car when i replaced cam seals on a camry for the first time ever..(mind you, it was my 2nd day at the shop)..to make a long story short, i had overtightened the powersteering drivebelt causing the ps pump to leak at the shaft and breaking the drivebelt itself and was hanging by 1 strand of rubber..my lead tried to cover it up by tellin the customer that "it happens"..meaning that the drivebelt is old and ps pump was goin bad(huge mess cause if the belt and ps pump was bad, we wouldve recommended those for preventive maintainance)

theres alot of dismanteling when it comes to certain sensors...the only reason the tech wont admit his fault is a)get written up/suspended b)will have to replace the whole harness for free, and without pay for the job c)really thinks the customer is an idiot d)customer is a whiner, and will screw you for bein a baby...

no thread jackin here..just givin you a little insight cause im a tech myself for a few years now..ive seen horrid techs, corrupt service writers and such, that really taints the way consumers(like yourself) look at "dealership techs"...

from what i tried to say in the beginning of this post...you shouldve kept the car there to cover your own ***..for one thing, if you had left your car there, you could use that in defense IF, IF you decide to go the expensive route to get your desired settlement vs the dealership..because from there, YOU can prove that YOU did not touch the vehicle to cause the melted harness or whatever mishap has happened...just pm me. id be glad to help..

i hate corrupt techs...call me a snitch, but im glad i was able to help the state clear up corrupt, lazy, stealing dealer techs and writers themselves...

I may start taking date stamped pictures of my engine bay before and after I leave my car at a dealership.

Hope you get a positive resolution.

You have to make them pay for anything that was damaged. Talk to a lawyer. See whats cheaper, to have a lawyer or just paying the dealer.

the dealer will be able to swallow the damages..its just a matter of how the vehicle owner can prove that it was the technicians fault..

I think its more of the service writers being crooked then it is the techs. We have had 2 evo's over the past few years taken in for a diagnosis and were lied to blatantly and never even got a proper diagnosis. They were to lazy to due an oil pressure check for the price that we were quoted to diagnos it, so they just told us it needed replaced and possibly the oil pump, and brakes all around too!
