06 evo mr oil change

I am about to get an o6 evo mr and i was looking under the car. On the oil plug there is a line that goes right throuhg the middle of the plug so i cant use a 17 mm closed wrench. Can i take the line off to take the plug off or do i need an open wrench? thanks a lot

If you cut that line you won't have an oil temp guage. Just open wrench it; it comes off easy.

What? The plug is a plug. There is no "line" going through the plug.

Am I missing something? Hahaha

Don't cut that line!!! Haha use a open 19mm wrench, at least that's what mine takes.

Yes on the MR model it has the oil temp sensor built into the oil pan plug

dumb

i hate using the open wrench side. I might just invest in a open wrench with the extra side that goes around the plug. What if that plug gets stripped. That was pretty stupid to design like that. thanks

You can also unplug it and put the wrench through. The MR plug is 19mm.

I use a socket that is used for removing a O2 sensor, this way I can use a torq wrench on it. I'm always paranoid about how tight I should go before I either, strip it, crush the hell out of the aluminum seal washer or not enough and it comes loose and I spill out enough oil to damage the engine.

I'm one of those people (little OCD at times, esp with lug nuts) that needs to make sure every freaking bolt is to proper torq spec. Wouldn't make a good mechanic, I would be way to slow

I think all '06 models have the sensor.

I'll find out in a couple of days then. Changing the oil soon.

Last time I jacked the car up, I don't remember seeing any wire coming from the oil pan plug... hmm... Probably just an MR thing.

the wire is only for the oil temperature sensor.

so if you do not have the factory gauges, you will not have the wire.
