I convinced a buddy of mine to look to get an Evo instead of the 350Z, which he has been looking at for a couple weeks now.
Anyhow, he makes the call to the Mitsu dealer here in Gainesville, and finds out they have FOUR Evos sitting out front. So we take a break from work, and head on over.
As soon as we got there, the salesperson we were supposed to talk to immediately said "You can't test drive it without a credit check. That's not our rule, that's Mitsubishi's." I personally just wanted to make a huge scene and talk to his supe, or as high in the company as I had to expose this to be a lie, which I assume it was.
Was it?
Anyhow, while giving my buddy all the details on the Evo, the salesmen just left us. 10 minutes later, as we're leaving, he runs out of the showroom waving his hands, trying to flag us down.
Part of me wants to go back, call his bluff on the credit check, and then demand a test drive ALONE in the Evo, or we'll file complaints.
Should I?
Thanks for the info guys.

From what I've heard and been told dealerships are not supposed to allow test drives on these cars because of the break in procedure, and personally I can understand that. I backed out of a deal on a car that had 20 miles and a test drive due to the fact that I simply wasn't comfortable with the idea of someone driving my car before me.
This is absolutely false. Whatever you do, make sure you do not deal with him. It is against the law to even say something like that. Tell him to go **** himself.
Read this year's consumer reports guide to buying a car. Its really good in this area.

Sheehy Mitsu in Manassas, where I got my Evo, absolutely does not allow any test drives of the Evo...I liked that, cuz I knew I was getting a NEW car and not one that had been beat on.
C'mon, folks...it's fast, it handles, it kicks ***! Just buy it...you won't regret it!

As far as actually getting a test drive, I would call back, ask to speak to a different salesperson and explain your situation, that you are a serious buyer who wants to make sure you are going to enjoy the car you are going to purchase.
Test drives are not for you to have fun and with high demand cars like the Evo, dealers are not going to easily allow people to test drive them. However, if you are really serious about possibly buying one, they should allow you to drive without pulling your credit. (repeatedly pulling your credit may actually lower your credit rating).
I test drove 2 on the same day at different dealers. I'm 28 and dressed ok (polo **** and dockers shorts). I had no intention of buying it until after the test drive. IMHO, with cars like this, a demop model is a must, at least at larger dealers, After 6 months, they can sell it to some kid at a lower price that they'd be able to affors.
well, my opinion, the dealership should have AT LEAST ONE EVO for test driving, leave the WHOLE REST of thier stock alone.
the Evo i drove out of the lot had TWO MILES (2) on it --- i LOVE that. no one drove this thing
