My evo is making a weird sound..

Hi, I'm the brother of the member "rhyneysimpson" who posted a thread a few weeks ago about our new Evo MR.

Anyway, a few days ago the car started making a weird noise and felt like it had lost some power at high rpms. Everything feels fine up until I'd say 5k and then you hear this "wishhhhhhhh" noise (almost sounds like a bov) and from there it feels sluggish.

I know I didn't explain that too well..but it's really the only way I know how to put it. We're new to turbos and whatnot...so neither of us are really sure about this. It might be a common problem or might be something no one has ever heard of, I really have no idea.

Thanks for any help.

I had my lower intercooler pipe blow off once but not completely and I would be able to build boost til about 4500-500 and then all of the pressure would just escape...check your lower int pipe and the other intercooler pipes. Sometimes they blow off but air can still get in so the car will still run...

sounds like a boost leak to me
buy/make a pressure tester and pressurize the system to check for leaks

sounds like a boost leak, check all the clamps on all the intercooler pipings, the one the comes out from the turbo all the way to the intake manifold... if you have a boost gauge, run the car and watch the gauge on those area you start hearing the noise, if the boost drops more than 5psi then its a boost leak..

also buy t bolt intercooler bands which will help you eliminate a boost leak as one of the problems...their also good just to have to you dont have to take you entire bumper off on the side of the highway to put a intercooler pipe back on...Im sure many people can vouge for that
