"Not a Daily Driver"
OK, so I was rather irritated when dropped my Evo off for warranty service issues. Here's the breakdown:
* 5th-gear tranny grind (many of you are familiar with this -- 1 in 5 Evos apparently have it)
* Interior falling apart - driver's door upholstery peeling away, panel under the dash collapsed
* Check Engine light came on (on the way to the dealer shop) and the engine bogged down, ran rough.
* Stalls and idles rough occasionally
So I was talking to the service manager at my dealer about how I was disappointed in the problems with the car, and so then he says, "Well, it's not designed to be a daily driver -- you should get yourself another car, especially this winter."
I just about had a stroke! A $30,000 showpiece? I think not. What the hell does he mean about winter -- AWD?!? The VAST majority of people out there drive this car every day, and just because I get one with poor build quality doesn't give them the right to make up an excuse for it, and turn the blame to me. <The car was properly broken-in, and not abused - it has been driven for which it was designed, and well-within warranty specifications, by the way.> I'm probably not going back there!
How many people out there drive this car every day? I bet very few of you have had problems too. This experience has really soured my opinion of
and the dealer. Our next family car will probably be an Acura TSX - at least it'll last and the service department kinda cares. Subaru might get my vote too.

The service for Mitsu. does suck, but if you complain enough they have to do something about it. Your car shouldn't be having that many problems just because you drive it hard, I drive mine really hard and the only problem has been the clutch.
Definitely check your local lemon laws. With so many problems like that you may be covered...best to be prepared just in case something happens in the future as well.
Best of luck to you.
Best of luck to you.
I drive mine every single day. I've had no new problems since having the 5th gear replaced. Took the dealer 15 days to get parts and complete the repair.
I have not gone back to that dealer since. I've gotten to know the EVO tech at a much closer dealer, and he takes care of me and the EVO.
Good luck, and be sure to call MITSUSA and have then open a case file with your VIN #. The phone # is in one of the tranny threads.

We should all start tape recording our conversations with the dealers. It would make hours of entertainment and fun. I'm going to Wal*Mart right now to go buy one of those mini recorders to put in my pocket.
I drive my car every day and it has given me no problems. I have had it for only a month with 1300 miles on it. It better not only be a show car this is my only car and will be out this winter to face a New England winter. You are right about the service department; I owned an Acura before this and got spoiled by their service department. Thought I was going to get the same treatment from Mitsu, was I ever wrong. Mitsu service sucks!

mine is a daily driver, but I have only had it since Saturday...i traded an SRT-4 in on it...it was also a daily driver.. I barely have over 350 miles on the EVO so far.. had 48 when I drove it off the lot.
well, passing 11k miles on my Evo and nothing's wrong. couple of long trips, ran fine through snow and downpour. Driven daily, you are either really unlucky or been pushing the car really hard. Yeah, it'll break if you red line the **** at every stop light.
PuertoRoc, you should be fine for the boston winter, just make sure you get winter tires, the advans offers ZERO traction in snow(even light snow)

What gas are you running. Are you using 93 octane?
Check your lemon law. That manager is full of crap. It's a great everyday car. I have no problems excepts when speedshifting 2nd. Power shift no problems so go figure. Never heard about 5th gear. You trans could be defective.

Evidently that guys needs a swift kick in the nuts for telling you that. What the hell was he even thinking when he said " especially in the winter." What a ****in idiot. It's these people that don't belong on the dealership floors selling cars or even fixing cars like the Evo. If you see him again tell him for me that he is a ****ing jackass ! ! !
I have to add. "Not suposed to be a daily driver." What? I wish I could talk to this guy. He needs some snse knocked into his head.
7200 miles, moded, and still running strong. And yes, it is my daily driver.

Kinda my daily driver but not really. I work in NYC and live in NJ. I take the bus most of the Time and use my Wife's car on weekends and weekdays for what ever.
Sorry to hear that. and Yes for 30K you really should be able to drive it everyday. But I know this car would be a poor daily driver.
Good luck and ya stay away from those *******s.
