70+... No worries. Car was beaten badly every day of its's life for the first few years, but now it gets a nice garage and a daily 10 min. commute.

2nd clutch, brake pads, PS pump are the only things that needed to be replaced.

Even then, teh PS. pump was my fault and the pads probably would have lasted another 20k if I pushed it, same with the clutch.

Tranny and T-case were sh*t from the day I bought it, but have not failed yet.

89K! ACT HDSS, OEM Timing belt kit (pulleys, idler, H2O pump etc...) and serpentine belt are sitting on a shelf in the garage awaiting installation @ 90K. Plugs, wires, fluids replaced every 30K, oil every 5K. Still runs like a raped ape........

PS. Never run anything but Advan A064 rubber. The ***** likes grip........on 5th set, worth every penny.

no abuse = prolonged use
this is a myth...Im at 50,000 miles modded with no problems..did however blow the clutch recently but I've been hard on the car since day 1...so in essence I've also had prolonged use and reliability and I actually had fun with my car..poser.

75,000

Failures

drivers side HID balast

Tranny...bought the car used and it had been heavily modded and abused, tranny was on the outs when I bought it.

But I do believe that the evo 5 speed transmission is actually quite strong

changed brake pads, tires, timing belt, HID bulbs

had to replace discs on the twin disc that was on the car when I bought it.

most maintenance had been because of Modding the car

as far as what the car came with, really not much problems that I can think off. I'm doing a compression test this weekend to make sure it's still good. I plan on a rebuild @ 90K but if my compression is off then it's coming sooner

I'm at 72k. I bought the car with 61k. I've replaceed the timing belt, tensionor and balance shaft belt. I've changed the spark plugs. I've changed the drivetrain fluid twice with OEM fluids along with regular oil changes. Seprentine belt will need replaced soon. Getting ready to replace the brake rotors, pads and fluid, coolant. Original clutch? Not a damn clue. Feels good though. It doesn't feel OEM, but I'm not sure :-/

Nothing big. Routine maintenance, fluids, blah blah blah. Mods are in my sig. The car pulls super strong and feels great! The best 70k+ miles car I've ever driven

Damn son! Been drifting much?

anyway...

I just rolled over 70k, just purchased my 3rd set of tires (Dunlop Direza). I follow the maint. schedule in the warranty booklet. I drive like a grandma on the highway most of the time so no big issues, only normal wear/tear.

Did brakes at 60k, still have factory clutch. Two things that fail: my oem oil temp guage crapped out (just doesnt work), and two (a big one): my paint suffers from hundreds of rock chips. Mostly tiny ones but there a few big ones but I tried to touch em up with paint as best as I could. It breaks my heart to see my front bumper and hood but I can't avoid the hwy, I do lot's of driving.

My only big mods are greddy ti catback, aluminum shifter bushings and stiffer front engine mount (makes my tranny shift like butter).

The car/engine is solid as a tank and I've enjoyed driving every single mile.

Wow, a lot of history there and hard-earned wisdom. Great thread.

I think the Evo's reliability is underestimated.

Usually, I don't read the long posts but your post was thorough and to the point for each item. Oh and your signature is awesome...

74k normal stuff- brakes, timing belt, second set of all seasons, plus advans still ok. daily driver, daily mover, daily undercover soccer van disguised as an Evo, daily ,"Honey, do you think you can go over to home depot and pick up-----?" large and heavy items that perhaps I should have bought a pick up truck. Wifey gets a for that daily nonsense, daily- do I keep it, do I sell it, do I keep it, do I sell it, and FINALLY, daily-How can I ever drive anything else than this DAILY BAD A$$ Evo VIII?
