sluggish feel at low rpm help.

So I have had my 05 vii MR for about 8 months now and the thrill is starting to wear off I guess. I feel like when I drive the car normally its very slow until the boost hits hard. I know that's what the turbo is for but its frusterating me. I'll give an example. I was turning right at a red light and pulled in front of a truck engaged clutch normally like 800-1200 rpm and felt like I wasn't able to get out of my own way. Thought the truck was going to hit me. Obviously I could drop the clutch and be fine but I want to see if anyone has a better solution? Maybe a lighter flywheel and better clutch will help bring those rpm up faster. My goal is 350 whp daily driver. Will a few ams stages solve or amplify these issues?

maybe you shift to slow? or should of downshifter to a lower gear. i agree thjat low rpms feel sluggish but i stay in low rpms for like a second then boost comes on. never really had a problem with it.

If you wanna pull out infront of a truck you need to keep the clutch dipped a bit, if u release it to early u will have no power, keep it in to long and you'l burn the clutch.

Nothing personal but I don't think it's a power issue but rather a driver one. Just learn how to take off quicker, short of launching of course.

yeah, for the low rpm power, bigger displacement Or hybrid cars have big advantage.
Toyota Prius is a lot faster than evo at that rpm range.

Well I'll try to take your guys advice. Maybe I'm driving it wrong. I had a 350z twin turbo and a stock g35 before and didn't have these issues. Let's face it guys under 2800 rpm our car is a lancer. Tbe is a possibility but the stroker is out of the budget for me.

That's just poor driving. You should never be close to 800-1200rpm in the Evo when driving. Hell, I idle at 1100rpm - we have 0 power below 2000rpm and next-to-no power below 3k. It's a weak, N/A 4cyl without the turbo. I can't imagine pulling out in front of anyone with rpms in the idle range...

You don't need ANY mods for this car to be fast as hell at all times. You just have to learn how to drive it.

i dont mind low power below 3k rpm because around the city you dont need it and when i feel like driving fast my tach doesnt go below 3k anyway

The Z/G have much more torque down low and coming from a Z myself I know what you mean about not having power. The issue is really you just being in too high of a gear. The Evo wants to rev and especially if you want to move out you gotta get those revs in the middle of the tach.

Like others have said, I idle at around 1k so you can't really expect any power at idle.

just to clarify I am talking about making a right turn from a stop. I'm not cruising in 6th gear at 30 mph then trying to punch it. I'm just not yet in the habit of pulling out into traffic by dropping the clutch at 3k since that's what u all seem to suggest doing. How long can I expect my clutch to last if I should never be below 2000 rpm?

You don't ever drop the clutch, you just have to get the revs up. You cannot accelerate from idle rpms in the Evo.

Dropping the clutch at 3k does nothing anyway. When we do full launches, we do it at 5-6k, but that's not what we're saying. You just can feel it - you have to learn how to get the revs up and slip the clutch to get it into boost sooner. Just hitting the gas from 1k rpm will buck and sputter or bog - useless.

The clutch doesn't wear from being above 2k rpm.
