we arent saying to launch your car every stop but its as simple as letting your clutch slip out til you get sufficient power.

Dropping the clutch at 3k does nothing anyway. When we do full launches, we do it at 5-6k, but that's not what we're saying. You just can feel it - you have to learn how to get the revs up and slip the clutch to get it into boost sooner. Just hitting the gas from 1k rpm will buck and sputter or bog - useless.

The clutch doesn't wear from being above 2k rpm.
very well put sir.

You don't need ANY mods for this car to be fast as hell at all times. You just have to learn how to drive it.
I really don't think an 1100 rpm idle is reasonable for most people.

The stock tune leaves a lot to be desired. Doctor up the map and you can let the clutch out at 1000rpm short shifting at 2500 and keep up with traffic just fine. You'll also notice that you can get close to 30mpg when doing this.

Sure it's reasonable. Stock is around 800 anyway, and mine is at 1k - very small difference.

You won't be going hardly anywhere short-shifting at 2500 - that means you're NEVER in boost whatsoever, and you don't get 30mph driving around in traffic - that requires long, sustained miles on the highway at optimum speeds (55-65 maybe) without ever boosting or accelerating. No matter what, none of that is relevant to the OP's perceived problem.

thanks guys for all the advice. I have been Slipping the clutch a little when I need to accelerate quickly. I was worried that doing that would wear the clutch prematurely. Wartalon I meant slipping the clutch into gear above 2k rpm. Obviously just driving above 2k rpm would not wear the clutch. Thanks again for all your responses.

you say stock idle is around 800rpms and yours is 1000rpms did you turn your idle up or are you saying that the idle vary's for different cars? my idle never changed stock vs modded "900rpms"...and if you did turn up your idle whats the benefit of doing that?!

^ Pushing the idle up to 1k will smooth out the idle on a cammed car in general, unless there small cams...

if you look at his mod list - he has cams, and a flash.

edit: short shifting before 3000 seems a little ridiculous on an Evo. try driving an old school 1.8 or 1.6L N/A VTEC honda. That'll teach you to keep the revs up. those engines are completely gutless under 3000.

Like others have said, I idle at around 1k so you can't really expect any power at idle.
+1, The VQ35 and VQ family in general is nitoriouos for torque. Coming from a turboed VQ powered Nissan myself also, I understand where you coming from. The evo just require more revs off the line and you really won't feel that same torque in the low rpms like you would with a VQ so there's really nothing you can do except like what everyone said...2.3

Yep, you're gonna have to use your clutch if you want to squirt into traffic.
