Internals necessary??

At what point is it necessary to build the internals of the 4g63? I currently am on the stock turbo and am getting ready to start running meth Once I get a bit more money I am looking at the br3065. Will it be necessary to build the internals if I plan on running that turbo w/ meth and ocasionally race gas & meth? Also, what are the necessary supporting mods for meth on the stock turbo. Will I need headstuds or retainers since I will be cranking the boost?? Thanks all

headstuds are always a good idea, especially if you are running high boost even on a stock turbo. as far as springs and retainers, im running 272s and pushing 8000 rpms on an otherwise stock head. had this setup for about 20k and have had no problems.

sorry, i thought the "otherwise stock head" part kinda made it pretty clear. if i have a stock head then that means i have stock parts in that head, other than the 272s i mentioned. since all heads on evos (even the stock ones) require springs and retainers, and i stated mine was stock, that means i have stock springs and retainers. hope that clears things up.

The Iron block doesn't really have anything to do with the strength of the aluminum head though.

. all jokes aside, i would get the turbo and a good set of cams before i built the motor. when you get tuned for the turbo get a tune for race gas as well. with just the race map you wont be pushing it all the time unless you can afford race gas all the time. if you have meth you will be more likely to run higher boost (i.e.more power) often which could be putting the weak stock rod bolts at risk of stretching due to more frequent abuse. then when you are ready to take the next step start looking at building your motor then go *****! just my .02

Something about cams to think about is that not all cams of the same advertised duration will work with the stock springs and retainers. the JUN 272's require spring and retainer upgrade if memory serves me correctly. But the HKS 272's will work fine with the stock hardware. I am running HKS 272's for this very reason. When I rebuild the motor I will probably go through the head and put some really nice, high lift long duration camshafts in it. As far as the original question, there are people putting down over 500awhp with the stock internals. that being said it is never a bad idea to upgrade before you need to. Nothing like a big hole in the backside of the block to remind you that you are spinning your motor to high or to hard for to long! If you do decide to upgrade contact Chris@nolimitmotorsports and ask him about the Wiseco/Eagle combo deal with 9:1 pistons for a drop in rebuild, the eagle rods com with high strength bolts (220,000 psi tensile strength I think) Hope this helps, feel free to PM me if you have any other questions or I was vague about anything here.
