hey


whenever I 'get on my car' just a little bit,and I get outside,I could smell something weird coming from my hood. It smells something like brakes when you brake really hard for a long time. It isnt the breaks because the smell is coming out from the hood.Any ideas?and my first gear sometimes has a high 'howling' sound.is this normal?THANKS!

 

p.s.-if it matters,its my 05 VIII,not the 03

 

It sounds like your are burning your clutch.

 

no,its not the clutch burning.I've smelled my clutch burn once,and its a totally different smell

 

I made a thread about the same issue a few weeks ago . I have an 05 VIII aswell. I have no clue what it is.

I have the same. Not sure what it is, smells like oil for sure, NOT clutch. Doesn't burn any oil though (at least not over 1-2K miles). Weird for sure.

I'm thinking my PO installed some kind of PCV weirdness. Hope I find out BEFORE the next smog check rolls around.

 

There wasn't really any replies that helped unfortunately. I checked the coolant and brake fluids but got nothing. My dealership seemed to think it was one of the filters which seems odd.

If you have any kind of oil on your manifold/heat shield it smells like somethings burning after you get on it. It takes a while for it to all burn off all the way.
Even oil from your hands will sink in and only smell when the car get really hot..
