EVO Maintenance costs are high?
If you are going to mod a car it is going to cost you. If anything goes wrong with your mod (it might happen) it is going to cost you even more and probably void your warranty so if you are really concerned about money you should get the Evo.

gave this car a weak clutch so people that drive it hard would wear the clutch out before the tranny. It all depends on how u drive man .... u can drive hard and fast, but be smart and u should be fine.

No, you don't have to get your maintenance done at the dealer. They'll just rape you and make you say thank you sir. You can just do the maintenance yourself, but keep the receipts and document it with a date.
Maintenance-wise:
oem tires = $850
new clutch and installation at dealer = $1000
do it yourself oil change = $25

Walmart always has Mobil 1 (5 quarts) for $18.88 as their everyday price. A few months ago, I walked into a Walmart and the 5-quart jug was on sale for $15.00. I bought 10 of them. No Evo yet bu all my cars get synthetic oil.

I doubt you'll see you're a higher scheduled maintenance cost on an EVO versus your used WRX. Clutch, tires, and brakes aren't going to be cheap on a WRX either. Even after you've dropped $3k in mods on a WRX, you may be out of a warranty depending on the mileage. Costs will be closer than you think when comparing a modded used WRX vs. new warrantied EVO.
most of the Posts i've read do not state what the maintenence cost for a complete service for the Evo really is? i know the Evo Tech is a contact for that information, but can some one tell us novices? what is recommended service intervals? what is the cost for such service?

Maint Schedule
Okay, here's a brief outline of the Mitsu recommended "Severe Maintenance Schedule". The regular maintenance schedule calls for slightly longer intervals (5k vs 3.75k for oil changes).
that's the major stuff. Expect to get 10-15k miles from OEM tires (perhaps less if you drive hard). Ditto for brake pads.
Personally, I changed the engine oil and filter at 1000 (oil was pretty black already). I will change the driveline fluids at 1300 (only b/c I didn't have the proper fluids to change it at 1000).
Besides this, if you're going to run your car hard (track, auto-x), I would use the Porsche club formula of 100 miles per 1 hard mile. e.g. 10 miles at the track == 1000 miles for the purposes of determining next oil change.
Hope that helps...
- Oil/filter change, rotate tires every 3,750 miles or 4 months, whichever is first
- Driveline fluid change, air filter change every 15,000 miles (manual transaxle, transfer case)
- Replace drive belts, engine coolant, rear differential oil, check exhaust every 30,000 miles
- Replace timing belt, spark plugs, plug wires every 60,000 miles

Aahahaha what a joke. 30k intervals for belt changes?! Wtf cheap junk are they using on this car? Every Acura (just for example since it's where I work and what I drive) can go over 100k miles before it needs a tune up and the least of the Acuras is 60k before any belt changes.
A lot of the Mitsu Evo service recommendations listed there make me go

You could make the same argument about the lifespan of the tires. The tires on this car have probably 1/2 the life of your stock tires, but some people would probably prefer that extra bit of grip.
Seriously, I'm not sure why the belts require 30k changes, that sounded rather low to me too. But whatever, the JDM Evo with ACD/AYC requires fluid change every 3000 miles just like the oil and these are only drive belts, not the timing belt.
As much as this sounds like an excuse, I think part of the reason why this car has somewhat higher than usual maintenance requirements is because its purpose-built for performance.
