Nice Pic!

Were you a pace car for a NASA Spec miata event? How'd you get away with out wearing helmets? Parade Lap?

I took my EVO to the track for the first time today. I ran the 2.9 mile course at Texas World Speedway. I was running during the SVT Mustang Cobra Club event and the EVO did well. My best was a 2:07 which is not bad considering it was the first time out with the car...

Yes, our Evo was the pace car. I must confess, though: That's not me driving, it's NASA's pace car driver. I did drive the car at other times that day, and I go to the road course (Summit Point and VIR) as often as I can...which is not as often as I'd like!

Since the pace lap isn't insanely fast, there doesn't seem to be a helmet requirement.

I really think that the road course is the ONLY place where the Evo's real capabilities can be explored. It's so rewarding to drive the car there.

I know I'm liable to get in an argument with that comment, so I'll qualify before that happens... You can certainly explore the limits of the car on canyon roads or other remote places, and you can certainly flog the car pretty well on the autocross course. But to really push the entire performance envelope of the car -- acceleration, handling, braking -- in a relatively safe manner...that takes a high-speed closed track. IMHO.

I agree. I still don't understand why cars like these, Evos, Stis, Z06s are purchased and not used on road racing tracks. Once you go you understand just how much of perormance package you have, until then you might think you know, but you just don't till you go. Drive on...

Why I think people buy cars like that...Is just for show or a toy car....I have been to auto crosses where people have flipped and rolled there cars...Most people realize that there car has ***** and can go really fast..but its just the fact that they dont' want to be drivin' some civic that can barely make it up a hill..No offense to honda or anything...

whatever, it seems like a lot of Evo owners migrated from Honduhs.

Too bad there are not more DSM owners purchasing Evo's...
