The rotors are now probably worthless too.

He is not responsible for it. I have over-torqed wheels before and never ever have I made the stud to spin. Most of the time you rip the threads off the stud or the lugnut. I work in the shop and I have met a situation like this where the customer wanted to check the brakes and I cant take the wheel off so am I going to be responsible for that? Anyways, as far as lug-nuts, you have to destroy the lug-nut in order to take it out. You just drill it with this special tool made just for that. I dont understand why so many lugnuts were damages so you should ask him about that. Wheel could also get damage if your not carfull and drill too far because once you drill the lugnut what do you think is behind it....thats correct the wheel so the tech that was doing it was not to carefull. I understand the finishi get a little f..cked up bit the wheel does not need to be changed. I dont understand why caliper paint got mest up and what really scars me is why and what did they weld. There should be no reason for welding, once you drill the lug out you just replace the stud ...thats it. In conclusion the shop where you have went instead of techs, they have hall bunch of tools that should go to pump gas for a living. You do have to pay for their work but in my opinion you have make your offer since they kind of did not knew what they were doing. That was very long but I just love threads like these.

They most likely welded the stud to the hub which is ok but the only problem there is that if the weld brakes you will have the same problem again. No I dont think they weld the rotor. If they did ..............run. Get a lawyer and take they to court because now they made your vehicle unsafe for public roads.

In a case where they bring it to you and you cant get the nuts off thats fine, then its not your fault.

But when this guy brings in his car, with the spare on (meaning the nuts have been removed and reapplied once already BY HAND and then taken off again to replace the spare in the shop) and has them place the tire back on, and they strip or overtq the nuts, that IS their fault. But not only did they screw up his nuts, they chipped the caliper AND damaged the wheel. On top of THAT they performed welding thats may not have been needed without advising him.

I am sorry, but if something like this happens, dont you think you should atleast inform the customer before you proceed any further? Kudos for the guy atleast telling him how many times they messed up.

If you honestly think its not the shops fault then there is no hope for you. Sorry about your situation OP, i hope it all works out.

On my previous car (MINI), I had a set of BMW locking lugs and 2 keys. I went to rotate my tires one weekend and could barely free the lugs at full force with a 3' breaker bar. Then when I got to the keyed lugnuts -- I broke both keys. Tire Discounters bought 2 new BMW keys. They broke both of those rotating the tires, and then bought 2 more for me. They claim that they don't know how this happened, since they hand torque every bolt, and the impact wrench is set at a max of 40psi. Yeah, sure...liars. Quality control is lacking at most tire places.

If someone deflated your tire, any chance they also super-glued the lug-nuts on? It's just a guess.

Do not pay for anything else extra than the flat repair! Those shops should have insurance.
