Eliminating balance belt

Im about to do my timing belt and someone told me I could eliminate my balance belt. Ive heard its only purpose is to limit vibrations in the car. I also heard it frees up power to the engine. Just wondering if this is true and if I could remove this balance belt without problems.

well u need a different shaft that ams sells ...then u eleiminate the other side but you need to rotate the bearing to block of the oil guides with a camshaft bearing too then you you need to block off the passage of the oil pump with a freeze plugs and put a bolt somewhere (i forgot what part exactly i didn't do that one) and in the car it is a pain in the a$$ too and you got to find those camshaft bearing tools off a truck or online...i recommend you leave it alone or let a shop that knows what they are doing do it

so the positives of doing this arent worth the struggle to actually do it then.

just for the fact that doing it in the car is in a pain and hard because of space and all the processes and getting the tool

One positive of doing it: if the balance shaft goes. The engine will be full of metal shavings.

A good mod when you decide to remove the engine and do some major work. Removing the shaft the engine will vibrate more at low speeds.. think harmonic balancer on the V-8 cars. removing it is one less thing rotating sapping power

If you have a stock motor dont do it as it will shorten its life. On a built motor its a whole new story.

If your rotating assembly was well balanced from the factory, there should be no issues with vibration. What alot of people fail to realize is how the oil pressure is affected by this modification. If you plug up the oil bearing oil your pressure will increase, if you don't plug it up, it will decrease. Either way, your oil pressure is going to change from its factory specification which could potentially spell trouble.

It's a pretty common mod when you rebuild an engine. I removed my balance shafts (there are two - one behind the oil pump and one on the other side) when I rebuilt my engine and had the rotating mass balanced.
