Boost gauge tubing issue...

Today I noticed a louder-than-usual BOV sound when I hit the clutch...naturally my first thought was that hooligans with SRT-4's came and swapped mine for theirs (I mean come on, simplest thing first, right?). But then I noticed something odd...my Autometer gauge was telling me I had absolutely no boost whatsoever...ah-ha.

When I popped the hood I discovered the tubing from the gauge had torn right off. I attempted to put it back on, but no matter how hard I push it on there it won't stay (a ring-shaped piece of plastic had actually torn right off the end).

I took a look through Autometer's site but to be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking for exactly. I'm hoping it's just the torn connector at the end, but does anyone know how this could have happened? I don't track the car, and only use it on the weekends these days...and I'm pretty sure these are supposed to hold up against quite a bit of pressure?

Also, any idea of what part # I'm looking for? Thanks in advance.

I sort of had a similar problem, except mine kept melting from my tubular exhaust manifold. I purchased some high temp/durable tubing and have been riding for 50k miles with no problems. If I remember I purchased the tubing from boostcontroller.com.

Ooh, nice, thank ya much.

I'm actually pretty sure it had melted on mine as well...still a bit surprising though.

^ i had the exact same problem before. the solution that i did that works is.... first you take that rubber conector piece off that hard clear line. get some vac line that fits tight over ur t-fitting. (about 6 inches). slide about 4 inches of the plastic hard line through the rubber line and secure it with a few zip ties and/or some sealant. this way you have alot more contact of rubber holding that rubber line to ur boost gauges hard line. conect this combo to ur t-fitting now and put a zip tie on that also to insure it doesn't pop off.

sorry if that was confusing but that is the best fix and let me know if u need me to explain it different or take pics

Thanks for the tips guys. I will be getting some new tubing but I've now noticed the car is giving off the p0171 code (too lean). The check engine light came at the same time as this issue, but through my searching I haven't seen this linked as a direct cause of such an error.

Could the hose not being secured properly trigger a p0171?

yep your P0171 is most definately related to your boost line coming off

Thanks guys, that's what I figured...after asking that I felt the need to edit a big "DUUUH" in there

Oh, and thanks for the PM EatSleepBoost, hopefully I can get this all cleared up tomorrow.

Alrighty, looks like everything's all set. I took a combination of advice and got some tubing with a converter in the center (to make it fit both ends, t-clamp and hose) more accordingly.

I cleared the error code and so far it hasn't come back. Thanks again for the advice! ...here's to blowin that SOB off again

The tubing that comes with the gauge is crap, I hope you got a better one.

Sure did, I found some good stuff at a local mom & pop parts store (one that's been in my area for close to 75 years).

I figured if I went to autozone my experience would be like it was last time...

employee #1: Who makes the car?

me: Mitsubishi. It's an Evolution IX, probably listed under Lancer?

employee #1: Here we go...two wheel drive?

employee #2: All.

employee #1: Wait, you said it was made by Honda?

me: Mitsubishi...

employee #2: *looks to employee #1* ...you should be shot.

me: What he said.
