I would think that if you visited the "Boycott these dealers" thread at the top of this forum, you would already know to not visit Freehold Mitsu. As a newbie, it's your job to read existing threads before posting anything.

So I'm still unclear on this. If your "experience with Mitsu has been the worst", I still don't know why you test drove another one? Price range means nothing when you have no faith that what you are buying will be a quality piece, right? And if you have no faith in the quality, there is no sense in test driving...

The Mustang Cobra is in the price range too. It's a capable performer. But it's a Ford and (in my opinion) will have reliability issues....which is why I never considered getting one or test driving one when I was shopping for my car.

So either your opinion on Mitsu's reliability is a bit exaggerated to make your point in this thread, or you were willing to look past your preconception....but got sucked right back in by it in the end. Either way, it seems irrational to me.

Maybe you should sit on your cash for a while. See what people are saying about their Evo's this time next year. And if after 30k miles, people are still of the impression that their cars are reliable, you'll have NO reason to not buy one....right?

This guy must not have a clue as to what the EVO is and what it does... Sure I had an Eclipse GSX since 93, and sold it runnin right at the edge of 11's with 133,000 miles on stock motor!! It all comes down to how you take care of your ride..

And he even comments about how the stress is all on the tranny for AWD launches.. THE FREAKIN CAR ISN'T MADE TO DO THAT!!! Of course you're gonna break ****... Dumbass... The tappety noise that you hear is common on both the DSM's and the EVO.. Might not be happening yet but I'm sure it will beccause of the hydrolic lifters..

Sorry to hear that.

But I think you will be missing a lot of fun.... Don't let some bad experiences on cars haunted your decision to get a fun car.

I'm assure you everyone on this list will think Evo is one of the best car for under 30k. Evo

Then pull up your shorts and step into a BMW if you want your $30K worth of quality...you just wont get all the performance, it'll be nice, but then you want speed again. Then you can step into the $50K BMW M3, since you'll be a Loyal Customer they'll give ya $1200 off - by then the M3 will be a little too "soft" - then comes the $80 Porsche, luxury and speed....oh but wait...what just passed me....f*cken EVOS!

Unfortunately your "decision (based on experience)" is not based on any experience with an Evo.

Your loss. See ya!

I read a lot of UK magazines (where they've had ALL the Evos I-VIII) and see classifieds with perfect-looking Evo IIs and IIIs for sale with high mileage. I know it's not named the "Devolution", so I would imagine the quality has improved over the years. Since it's in its eighth iteration, I would imagine all of those Mitsubishi factory and rally engineers would have figured out what breaks and what works by now... Good luck.

I dunno, I'm very wary of Mitsu quality, that's why I have so much trouble swallowing the idea of paying $30k for a Mitsu.

It's a common stereotype that Mitsu's generally aren't top quality but it's a stereotype for a reason. Likely because it's based on lots of bad experiences with them.

Hell, everytime I think of a DSM Eclipse being modded I think of it blowing up. For all I've read/seen/heard, the 4G63 is a piece of crap that blows up easily.

But you know what, the fact of the matter may be because every highschooler and their younger brother was buying one and putting in cheap mods (all they could afford) and not doing their modding intelligently and it is all of their experiences that give DSMs and the 4G63 a bad name and leave a bad taste in my mouth.

And then the thought of paying $30k for it? Hellllll no.

So really I'd have to say as much as I think I am going to love test driving an Evo when I do it, I am afraid that it will be something I would have a huge concern to actually spend my very hard-earned money on.

Especially when I could have an S2000 for about the same price and enjoy the heck out of it and know I've got a car that's got better build quality and should last longer.

But again, I haven't made up my mind yet either. I definitely look forward to test driving an Evo because if it wins me over there, I am pretty sure I will end up with one.

The best was I can explain it - I am trying to find reasons TO buy an Evo and reasons NOT to buy the s2000, because right now the s2000 I love everything about, but it's not practical as an only car so my excuses not to buy it are lack of cargo/seating space and RWD in the winter, and excuses TO buy the Evo are AWD and 4doors with a bigger trunk practicality.

I'm hoping the Evo will win me with its performance and then it's just reliability that would be my only remaining concern.

Haaaaaaaa! I venture to say 'more' problems with something else is highly likely, especially if he chooses to stay in the <$40k performance car category.

I literally drive the heck out of my car, much moreso now since I started modding er' up. We're talking beatin' the hell outta it ... in a good way of course. But I constantly pound the pedal, redline er', and take corner like I'm insane! Other driver's think I'm nuts!!! .... but I don't care. Then again, I don't go around cuttin' people off or drivin' like a fool when I shouldn't either. The evo is highly addictive I must say ............. but after 8800 miles, the car continues to run better and better each time I step my foot in it. Oh.... and I recently found the perfect settings for my S-AFC after some wideband tuning ... and all I can say is ..... wow! Although I set my EVC around 19-20 psi, sometimes boost will accidentally spike at 23 psi and the car literally FLIES!!! Things like that happen when u have an evo with a fully open exhaust sytem! This is no ragged out '91 Eclipse dude ....... so if you are 'really' basing your decision on your personal heuristics toward , then you are probably making a huge frickin mistake. But hey, what the F*UCK do I know anyway.

Dude ................... the bottom line is that comparing the evo to your Eclipse is probably about the worst thing u can possibly do if you intend to buy a $30K sportscar ............ I'm a PICKY SON A ***** and the evo is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY MORE than I ever expected. Too bad your biased views toward will never allow u to know.

I just got mine today and I'm very impressed so far, we'll see what brings in the coming months. Had 2 of my buddy's come by (one has an S2k, the other a 225Q TT).

They were both sold after driving it, my buddy with the S2k felt like he was back in his Type-R (but much nicer).

He would definitely give up his S2k for an Evo.
