Evo + HKS 272 camshaft = upgrade valve spring?
Evo + HKS 272 camshaft = upgrade valve spring?
Ok, I know that most people would upgrade their head studs? Some says that it requires valve spring upgrades too. Is that necessary?
Go and do it without upgrading, blow some crap up and lift some valves and smash some pistons and get back to us and let everyone know how it went.
BTW, your tuned by Tamer and so am I he knows what he is talking about, talk to him and get his .02 cents and he will most likely tell you to do the upgrade, your playing with fire not doing it.

I've been tuned by Dynoflash, turbotrix, and KevinD. All of them said it's not needed unless you rev very high. I.e. beyond 7800 RPM. I've driven 30,000 miles, without upgrading anything head wise, with the exact cams and I'm fine just like countless others.

I don't have experience with the eVo cams...however, I have built ford motors before...When putting a cam especially with with more aggressive ramp rates and durations it was always recommended to upgrade springs for simply because some cams require a stronger seat pressure...not sure how the stock pressure compares to the stock cam vs HKS...but that was something that was important...you get more out of the cam with proper springs...and you don't risk valve float if you accidently over-rev the car...so it may not be neccessary per say but its nice to have a piece of mind knowing that your safe especially when so much damge can be caused by negligence...just my $.02
with HKS 272 cams you don't need springs and retainers unless you plan to rev past 8k rpm... had mine for 20k miles no problems, there are plenty of people running the HKS 280's with no problems also...
