Passport 8500 false laser warning of the EVO
Does anyone else own a passport 8500 and get a false laser warning every once in a while? I heard that the STi's were doing the same thing to the valintine 1.

Why would it create a false laser warning? There would have to be a light emitting source that emits at the exact frequency of a cops laser speed gun, right?
I got a few laser hits on my V1 in the Evo last weekend. 3 were real, one was not....but the false was a very very brief chirp. The schrill of the laser warning sure makes my adrenaline pump! huhu

I have an 8500 in my EVO VIII and never had a laser false alarm. And I have been laser'd for sure, saw the cop that did it, thank God for huge brakes, hehe. Was doing 40+ in a 30.
As a side note though, my speedo does run slow, at least per the two "fixed robot" speed monitors in my area this week. At 56/57 their speeds said 52/53.

are you talking about Xband? it happens all the time when youre next to an automatic door like at the grocery store or a gas station. The sensor is the same. I think the only legit ones are K and Ka. I wanna just remove the Xband because its annoying
You can program the 8500 and it will not alert on X band. 99% of cops don't use X anymore. Ka is what we have here in CA.
8500 is the best KA detector there is. I love mine.
BTW, in CA, K is the band that most stores use on their doors.

My Escort 8500 has gone off on Laser 5 times. The first time in Colorado on Pike's Peak when a park popo was driving up to tell everyone that a big truck was on its way up (already on edge from driving in near zero visibility on Pike's Peak the laser signal shrill scared the s_ _t out of me), second time was at a construction zone (possibly survey equipment but really not sure), third time at a local fast food joint (still confuses the f_ _k out of me, and haven't been back since to see if it would happen again), fourth at an accident site where there were some cops but really don't think any of the cops that were there would have LIDAR, and fifth can't really remember where.

How do distance and cycles per second to hand in hand?
Light=Measured in distance, not Hertz
Radio Waves=Measured in "Cycles per second", or Hertz.
You would be hard pressed to find somebody measuring light beams in terms if cycles per second, you moron!
I've found when driving past the airports in the area (and elsewhere for that matter) my Passport will go off briefly with Laser almost everytime; i assume its picking up the laser landing guidance system. Thats one picky SOB
Oh, and around here about 50% of the cops still use X-band, I get hit with it all the time on the highway.

so for the radar clueless, what should I spend my hard-earned greenbacks on? I honestly don't know what band/frequency/wavelength cops in Oregon use but what are some recommendations?

wavelength and frequency do go hand in hand.
