Is it risky to buy an EVO that was a lemon at one time for brakes?

So I'm in the process of buying an IX SE, and it has low miles, everything is good. Then I bought the carfax and saw that at 2,200 miles Mitsu bought it back from the original owner because I guess it had repeated brake problems. Then Mitsu replaced the brakes and re sold it, and the current owner has had it 11 months and that's who I'd be buying it from. There's been no work done to the car as long as he's owned it from what the carfax says, and he says it's 100% perfect.

So, should I be worried that there might still be a brake issue, or do you think once it's been replaced by Mitsu then it's ok? Also having that on the carfax, does it bring down the value, or is it not really an issue?

Buying a used car is always a risk, just go and inspect it for yourself or take it to a mechanic. The fact that it has been documented for brake problems can be a benefit for you as you now know one thing you must look at.

Have it checked out and confirmed at a mitsu dealer that the car is 100% operational and problem free. If it is then get it! Good luck with it

Well it's 700 miles away so it's not that easy to inspect it myself. I told him I'd pay for him to take it to a mechanic and have the mechanic do an inspection, and if it'd check out, I'd fly and get it. So that's about the best I can do realistically. It has a few bolt ons like intake, exhaust, coilovers, but that's it. So even if there was an issue it should still be warrantied as far as the brakes go.

Hm I wouldn't be so sure of that. Mitsu is known to void warranties for anything. Just depends on which stealership you go to. I personally would never bring my car to a dealer with any mods at all. But knowing mitsu, they are experts at seeing if u swapped parts so they could void warranties just for that.

but how can they legally void a warranty of the brakes, if the motor's been touched? I've had modded cars for years, and the law always states that you cannot void an entire warranty for any modifications, but simply deny warranty coverage to that particular defect if it was caused by the mod. So how can a dealership do that?

talked to mitsu, there is NO warranty on the vehicle any longer as of a few months ago, so that's now the issue I have to deal with. The car is sound but there is no warranty.

It sounds ridiculous but it happens. My friend got his car red flagged because of an intake on the car. Mitsu ftl

I say look for one that is closer so that you can personally inspect it.
