Sitting on the fence about meth injection
Hey,
ive read a bunch of posts concerning meth, what it does and how it works but one thing i'm having trouble with is; is it for me?
Many of you here are very much in to drag racing and use it for that end, given the small tank capacities, etc..but i dont plan on ever drag racing my car. maybe once just to see but im not really interested in that.
is meth a good mod to a daily driver that will hopefully see some track time? like autocross, lap days..that sort of thing.
im looking at a 35r kit to compliment this if i decide to go for it.
will there be any benefits for this desired use? what are your opinions? should i get it installed for use later? any help is welcome.

I'm not really on the fence about meth, it is more a question of when. The reason being is that I really like how my tune feels with my mods - similar to your sig + FMIC, intake, Walbro, etc. The problem is that I get some knocking when aggressively floored and at high-rpm that I think is gas related (add a bit of race gas to bring the octane up and it seems to mellow out).
The bottom line is that I want to be confident with what I am running, plus with the addition of meth and more tuning it will pull even harder. I hear a lot about the quality of gas in California and figure you would probably want it for a similar reason.
Anyway, best of luck!

autocross for fun...more interested in tracking it. im not totally decided on the turbosize either.
im not interested in tuning for e85 because its not available everywhere and i move alot. plus its not really available at the one gas station i have available for more than 50 miles.

I'd prefer just a simple pump and race gas map. 91/116, 91/E85, 93/110, and so on. Most tuners now are able to do external map switching. No need for laptop and cable and much quicker. Check out the ecuflash subforum.
There is a bunch you can do with the differnt fuels as Im sure you already know. Here is how I see it for meth -
+ for Meth injection - I have seen a lot of cars with it, and it works really well, I suggest a aquamist kit if you are going to get one. In DFW it seem everyone on around has methinjection and the cars a really fast. Its pretty safe, if the failsafes are hooked up properly. With a 35r it will complement it very nicely. KevinD with evo dynamics (close personal friend) has a daily driven 35r car with Meth, all the bolt ons. It is very relaible, and makes TONS of power when you want it.
Bad side of meth - When you tune for meth, the power is only there when you have meth. if you run out, your boost is cut. there are other options to fix this if you use the tephra ecu mods with map switching, typiclly when your on meth, your on meth. Also you have to have source to get it, and it is very expensive, around here it cost $7 a gallon, and a gallon doesnt last long if you on the trottle.
On another note, depending on your plans for autocross, a 35r might not be the best choice of turbo.... it will make it much harder to stay in the boost b/c it spools late in the rpm range..... you probably be much happier with a green

like i said autocross is just for fun...not the primary goal for this car.
thanks for the input. never thought of what happens when im out of meth either. external map swithing may have to happen if i want this.

I'm fighting the same battle right now too. I have pretty much decided for me, Im going with e85 and map switching, because over all its cheaper, and in the end I think it will save some hassle of getting meth etc, how ever, the trade off is, I have to be on top of tunning for blend changes. My evo is not my DD so this isnt such a big deal for me to have to do this.
With meth, you dont have to worry about blend changes so your tune will last a lot longer... If you search on youtube, there is videos of people that have complete mapswitching integrated with the stock ecu and the aquamist failsafes. I all works semlessly. Im working on doing this to a car now, but its going slow because of my real job......stupid bills.

on a DD, for me one of the best mods i ever did was meth, you makes tons of power very safely and i would even suggest tuning the stock turbo for it because you may end up being happy with the power it makes on that and may not have a desire for a 35r...the stock turbo + meth is an awesome combination...
TTP tuned the car that I just purchased recently prior to me picking it up, with the TTP Meth Kit.
Works VERY well, has all of the failsafes, and dyno'd 394/456 at 100 degrees in Miami a year ago or more with just FMIC, bolt ons, Cosworths & Meth.
I daily drive the car, and unless you are HARD into the throttle 24/7 you don't use that much. I drove the car 2000 miles from Florida to Nova Scotia, Canada and didn't need to top it up once. The kit starts to spray at 8psi with the current tune, and the only way of noticing is the little red light that lets me know **** is about to break loose.
I'd say with some spirited driving, some highway runs, and daily back and forth to work the washer res' tank lasts 700 miles +
A+++ for TTP & Meth.

go pick up the latest Modified Magazine....
they do a review of a snow performance kit on a 35r evo...
picked up 100whp on just meth
i wanted meth, but then i decided to go a different route with my car and im tight on money
