Warranty success is such an awsome thing... Its like waiting for your HIV results.... your just waiting and waiting and all of sudden "Mr so and so, we will be replaing your parts under your vehicle warranty"

From my experience when I was younger detailing cars for a number of years I noticed that people who use alot of hand lotion tend to have really mucked up steering wheels that crank and peel.

This is due to the chemicals in the lotion baking in to the material of the steering wheel while the car is parked outside during the day. This in turn makes it crack, peel, or do whatever.

Solution = stop being a grezzy SOB when you get your new steering wheel.

JK on the grezzy part.

My Steering wheel '03 started to peel after my warranty expired.

If they don't end up covering it, I ended up going to a sporting goods store and bought some bat or racket grip tape that I wraped the spot with so it wouldn't get worse.

My wing and calipers peeled as well, they covered the wing but not the calipers.

Good luck

Hey Jmelocik, I have the same problem with my steering wheel. Just noticed it the other day. For no reason the 12 o'clock position is peeling back. Pretty pissed about it... hope warranty covers me!

The same dealership took care of my brake calipers half a year ago, specifically Billy Sims. He is a good guy.

My dealer refuses to do any sort of test drives on evos, i would hate to see how their warranty practices measure up.

Damn people, I thought I was the only one with a steering wheel going funky! Thanks for all the replies.

Yes Billy Sims at Newport News Hall Mitsubishi is AWESOME! He has helped me everytime I have my car in there.

As far as the hand lotion, greasy hand theory, it would have to be the latter because I definitely don't have sensitive hands! LOL

Thanks for all the feedback folks maybe this will help m cause to get a steering wheel. Anyone who has had there steering wheel replaced under warranty would you care to list which dealership and when? Thanks again.

Josh

My steering wheel is also starting to fade and peel in the 12 o'clock position. But I very rarely even hold it there. My elbow is always on the door with my hand at the 9 o'clock position.
