Buying A Used Evo, What To Look For?

hey guys, im new to this forum and im hopefully soon looking to being new to an evo. right now im looking at a 2003 EVO 8 with 72,000 miles on it. the car has a turbo back exhaust, intake, and blitz blow off valve. i dont know to much about evos but is it a bad idea to buy a 2003 evo with 72k on it? where should i inspect this car for problems?..the problems with the car right now are it has a flickering driver side headlight that wont stay on and it also only half of the tach lights up on the dash the other gauges dont. anyone have any input on this?

gauge cluster may jus need new light bulbs... headlight may just need to be connected right or has some sort of short...

check the service records... check to see if it has the 60k maintance done
check the turbo for shaft play
check the compression on the motor
check to see if it has the oem clutch ... doubt it
possibly carfax as well?

all i can think of off the top of my head

hmm well it also needs brakes, tires, and rotors and and alignment but i work at firestone so it isnt really a problem but still..i just didnt know if i should take the evo and run..ive wanted one for a while and its hard to find people that want to trade evos for SRT-4's but this guy really likes my car so i kinda fell into a good deal i thought..i checked it out already and the car starts right up and idles fine and we went for a ride and theres no wining, and the motor doesnt tick or anything..i duno..there is a local that wants to buy my car for 16k so i might just give it to him and throw in the other 1500 and pick up a white one that another local has for 17500..it has 30k on it..any input? lol

Totally go for the the one with only 30k miles on it for the additional $1500.

72k miles on any car is a lot. On a turbo sportscar it's probably been to hell and back.

k, well as far as the one with 72k goes it has a new act clutch in it..i duno its a tough call, it would be really easy to trade but its kind of a bad trade because of the condition of his car and the money and time and condition of mine..im deff leaning towards the 30k evo. probably safer and more reliable that way..im not sure how well a 72k evo would react to a FP GREEN or 35R TUNED WITH METH lol

Dont bother with the one with high mileage. Go for the one with 30k for the extra 1500 damn why not. What dealer is selling one with 30k for 17500 sounds like a deal to me. Every evo around where i live is going for like 20+ if has close to 30k mileage.

for 17,5K and only 30k miles, that is a pretty good deal. I just wish they're were more EVO's in Canada
In the spring there will be one more anyways :P
