Very scary story you just told.

Glad to hear that you're OK.

RIP for the young man in the news article.

Scum that would kill somebody for a car deserve the severest punishment allowable by law.

Also.........

I've sold a couple of used cars before, and there are always a couple of common sense things like:

1. Always bring somebody with you.
2. Tell friends / family where you are going.
3. Insist on meeting the buyer at a very public place like a mall parking lot at times where there are a decent amount of people around.
4. Do not take long test drives.
5. Do not stop anytime during a test dirve to allow the buyer to "look" at the car .

This goes for purchases for parts too. I've done about 3 evom transactions like this as well.

So sad.
My attackers found my car through autotrader.com and actually took the time to research Evos a little. The "buyer" specifically said "I don't like the MR transmission but I like yours because it's more reliable." The friend that pulled the knife didn't say anything the entire time, and in retrospect, was very careful about where he stashed the knife while sitting in my Evo.

Still, like 6-speed said, ALWAYS BRING SOMEONE WITH YOU. It's not a 100% solution, but it helps discourage an attack much more.

This is such BS, how can you have the mentality to do something like this, dont these scumbags think about his family, his life and what he's leaving behind. I hope these guys get whats coming to them but it wont end the suffering of this guys poor family. RIP and all for a car

Growing up in my line of work (pawnbroker/jewelry/retail),Ive learned to stay paranoid. The last two cars Ive sold I had a friend with me and my piece on waist. You might think its overkill but I grew up taught that anything involving money or exchange should be handled carefully and well planned. Maybe it couldnt have been avoided, I dont know.I personally think of all the bad scenarios that could go down and ways to try preventing them.Either this guy didnt prepare or these people knew him and/or were mentally ill.I Cant understand why everyone is so suprised.People get killed for much less these days.

Meeting someone in the evening is a no go. Meeting up by yourself is a no go.Inviting someone where you live.....no thanks. Some people make themselves vulnerable and get taken advantage of. I even remember a few scams awhile back where people would arrange to see your car just to find where you live.A few days later car is gone. I feel bad for the poor guy but theres an a$$ for every seat. I hope justice is served for the other tards involved. At least the one kid is dead already.Thats a plus in my eyes.

This is horrible, why take a life over a car?

I sold my last two Evos to Soldiers that I knew, so I never felt I had to worry about being stabbed... though I had a lot of random people come look at the 03 Evo. I guess it helps to have a buddy when showing your car to someone.

I kinda have an experience like this, while in stand still traffic i was actually held to gun point cause some scumbags wanted my moms car, I was in the passenger seat and one came next to my moms window and the one with the gun to my window, they told my mom that if she wouldnt get out of the car they would kill me in the spot, luckily God decided to help. My mom started screaming hysterically and a taxi driver rammed his car into the driver side robber and pulled out his gun on the robber with the gun, they left and my mom says it was the worst moment in her life.

From my previous experience with people who only want to joy ride a vehicle. I will not let anyone drive my car unless they put down a cash deposit. (Non negotiable) Second, I always ask to see a current driver license and proof of insurance. If this is too much for a buyer to handle, than they need to find another car. Works for me to keep the ***** out.

I agree on the cash deposit and drivers license/ insurance. Sounded like the poor guy was simply too trusting and got taken advantage of in the worst of ways. I send my condolences to the family as well...tragic times...

wow dude - the details about the 20yr old telling em about burying a body in the backyard, then the coward takes his own life (questionable maybe...) - I'm just glad they were able to find him and give the family a piece of mind...
