Cooling fan operation question
Depends on what year your Evo is, your fan has multiple speeds and its' operation is dependant on temperature and pressure. 03 Evo's use a fan control module that controls the radiator fan. 04 and up Evo's use a high speed relay and low speed relay to control the condensor fan. Both are controlled by the ECM. The 03 Evo fan controller is prone to internal failure, and can cause problems with radiator fan operation. Mitsubishi has issued a recall on the 03 Evo fan controllers as well as the 03-04 Outlanders and 02-03 Lancers that share the same fan controller design as the 03 Evo, but different part numbers. The recall letter states that failure of the controller may cause overheating...............
Although your vehicle is not overheating, you seem to be having a problem with the radiator fan operation stuck on high speed. IF your Evo is an 03, call your dealer and advise them of your problem. I've found that the faulty controllers on the Outlander and Lancer can cause the same problem (fan stuck on high speed). If the controller is at fault, the dealer may replace the controller under the recall. That is, if your Evo does have a problem, and if it's an 03 only...........
IF your Evo is an 04 or newer, your condensor fan circuit is completely different. If you're certain you have a problem with your condensor fan, bring it into your dealer if it's still under warranty. If it's out of warranty, PM me and I will give you some info to help you solve it.

Thats good info. jahnnybravo! I think you nailed the problem I am experiencing. The high speed fan on radiator is not turning off with AC on. Thanks for the recall info. I am driving an 03.
I'm having a similar, but somewhat different problem. The front radiator fan on my '06 IX doesn't come on at all when idling, but it will kick on with the rear fan if the AC is turned on. Any thoughts on what could cause this? Everything else seems normal, but cabin bay temps seem a little high even when cold outside with fresh air coming in.

you having experience with this, where would you start to investigate for a fix? my fan is ON all the time; car Completely off and keys on ON position, when the car is idling, cruising the fan is still ON. I noticed just a few months ago I can hear the the faint whirl of the fan going 20-30 miles per hour. I have no evidence of it ON in Highway speeds because of excessive noise on the highway, but I'm assuming its on. I also notice it takes forever in colds starts for my evo to peg dead center (gauge). I estimate somewhere around 5-8 minutes until my needle creeps up to the middle gauge. Could this be relay? coolant sensor? something else?

These cars are getting old. Be on the lookout for cut wires if this car came to you this way. Some previous owner with challenged finances could have wired the fan directly to the ignition when the system acted up.

My issue (IX) is a bit different. Both fans turn on while idling, maintaining coolant temps, AC off. It seems to be always like that judging by the sound I'm used to hearing. I do see some dealer quality wire splicing pre-controller. This might not be bad since I wanted to make sure the radiator fan has a backup for track events
