Okay if you buy this car for say 13-15K and two months later you total the car, how much will the insurance company pay you?

Will they give you the regular wholesale money for the car?

What or how do they judge a loss on a salvage title car?

The real question is how was an ALMOST new evo worth near 29k get totaled and declared as salvage if only a few itemswere stolen. All the parts could only have cost 5 - 10 k. This would still not cause it to become salvage. Perhaps ANY theft recovery automatically becomes salvage?

Good point, could it be something else? My friend bought a salvage Acura that also only had about 7K in repairs, the car is worth mid 20's, he only paid about 8K for the car. But again he bought it straight from the Insurance company.
So after repairs he should only sell it for his cost about 15-16K no?
I say find a car with clean title, maybe after one year your tired and want to sell, then what? Its still a Salvage title at the end.
Salvage title= loss in value no matter what car it is.

start low and go from there, as long as he is cool but 12000 or even 15000 really is really really low, I mean we are talking about an evo9, I would say its worth about 18000 easy

I'd pay 18k max for this car.

If the mileage is accurate and the car was broken into and not actually stolen it'd be a pretty good deal.

It's funny to hear some of the people on the board who think that their "used" evos are in any better shape than a salvaged car

Bear in mind that salvage titles work differently from state to state. Even if the car is put back together and issued a reconstructed title, if it's later sold to someone in another state it would have to pass another certification to be issued a reconstructed title in that state. Some states are stricter than others, this is part of the reason why alot of people won't touch a car like this even at a steal of a price.

This is true, and Florida is one of the strictest on titles as most of their cars even if small fender benders will at the very least get a Salvage title and a large number will actually get CD (Certificate of Destruction) for minor damages.
(Family owns a salvage dealer)

insurance company would pay out full amount regardless if it was salvaged or not. i bought a salvaged yamaha R1 with salvaged title, got in an accident(fairing damage) again and it was salvaged again and insurance company paid me full price for wat it was worth
