If you have self control, you can probably make it with whatever car you drive. But being that young and having a car that high of a price, wouldn't be a good idea. Unless you make a load of money or get all the money you want from your parents, then get whatever you like. But if you get an evo now, It would be more expensive to upgrade to a better car later. =D

if you want turbo + awd but something you can actually afford and insurance you can actually afford start with an old 1g or 2g eclipse- learn more about the 4g63 motor and turbo motors and down the road when you have a job that can pay for an EVO and and enough experience driving a machine that powerful make the upgrade, but be realistic- its not a 16 year olds car, more of a dream...unless daddy buys it for your lucky punk @$$!!!! for most kids that aint gonna happen!!!

Get a piece of crap so when you have your first crash you won't lose much.
Spend your money having fun instead of on car and insurance payments.

Inductive reasoning will not always work. I still remember the thread "how fast have you gone in your evo?". There were pages and pages of m.p.h's over 110 on the highway. I, as well, posted in that thread. It was fun but I do regret doing it. Granted, a evo is a performance sedan which deserves to be driven spirited on the track. Rant over!
A) His maturity level...uhm yes I think we know right around where a 16 yr old is on the maturity scale.

B) All cars go fast enough to kill you, but when your 16 you dont know how to drive, an evo only exaserbates your inabilities by overshadowing them with false confidence

C) It's very difficult to afford an evo, its maintenance, gas, and especially proper tires. If you live where it snows your going to need a second set.

D) Who here would buy an evo from a 16yr old...................nuff said

Honesty -- Instead of an A+, I suggest buying the CCNA study guide and get into Cisco Networking.. then get the professional level cert then the expert level cert. A good Cisco expert can make 100K+. That or get a DBA (database admin) cert. or learn to code. Just my advice.

As for the car situation.. your insurance would be sky high. Possibly as high as $300 to possibly $500 a month. I don't even know. You should get an insurance quote to be sure before you buy. Don't forget premium fuel costs, mobile 1 oil changes, tires every 8 months or so (for me anyway), etc. Hundreds of dollars each month to own and maintain - not including the car payment.

I would not recommend an evo for a first car. Most people screw up or have accidents in their first car. Learn to drive well first and trash a cheaper car before getting a nice, fast, expensive car. Give yourself one year at least. If you do good, then sell it, get your money back, and buy a better car. Plus you'll have more time to save up more money. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly. Almost everyone I know has crashed their first car / bike, etc within a year of starting driving. I almost did but was just lucky. It happens.

His finance immaturity is a good indication that he won't be able to afford nor be responsible enough to drive the vehicle. Nobody does private finance, not even family members. Buy a thousand dollar beater and use the other money to build credit then finance whatever you want to finance.

my first car was a '94 eclipse (18 yrs old). I wanted an evo, but i waited .... a yr.. lol. I agree with going for the CCNA instead of A+. Most places dont even look at A+ (i know, im an IT) I currently have A+,Security +, Net +, CCNa, CCWNA (wireless), Certified Hacker... However, im in the Navy so I dont make that much lol. probably 3500 every 2 weeks. (im in iraq, extra pay, + being married with San diego housing allowance) (24 yrs old now) soooo. my point is that even though i make 7k a month, an evo is still hard to maintain. We know your going to floor it, We know you probably cant drive a Clutch to perfection yet, and lets face it, Every Single one of us will floor it getting onto an open highway. Im not telling you not to get an evo as a first car, but just consider other options first.

Also, why are you looking to spend so much on an evo. you can easily find an evo 8 for under 15k. ('03 models mostly). Its still a lot of car, then you can upgrade to a nicer evo in a few years.

other options that are fun and cheap (used)

1. honda s2k
2. mazdaspeed --- anything really
3. nissan 350z/infinity g35
4. a regular WRX
5. the lancer GTS has tons of nice options on it and only sacrifices less than 100 hp.
6. eclipse, mustangs, a N/A supra, VW r32.... the list go on for performance.

sorry to make it long, but of course i had to through in my 2 cents. thats all i have to say about that.

I got mine the day before my 16th birthday and I do not recommend an Evo as a first car not only because of the stupidity but because of how other people treat your things especially if they are nice. People will be pissed about others having nice things so they will try and do stuff to it just to make themselves feel better. It costs quite a bit of money to keep it running and to get things fixed if something does happen.

I'd look into that Cobolt. The new turbo Colbolts are damn impressive. Might be cheaper than a used Evo, and probably have far less expensive insurance payments too. I'm not saying you're unable to handle an Evo, because I don't know you. BUT I still think the smarter choice at the age of 16 would be the Cobolt, because it's probably cheaper overall to maintain, fix, probably better mpg, etc. Easier on the wallet.

Well thank you for your opinions and no im not an unexperienced driver i have been driving since i was 11 with my father when he took me out on drives. And yea im going to also get Cisco Networking certification next year. I also feel what you guys are saying about the people who will scuff my car at this age especially in a high school parking lot and im not as dumb and careless as you think i have done my share of highspeeds trust me i have learned over my 5 years experience of driving what to do believe it or not. Thanks guys for the opinions i appreciate it.

Hey I'm from houston too and saving for my evo. I'm currently 18 and plan to have it by about 20 In all seriousness these people are right, no one will finance you and beyond that just dont get if or your first car. Its good your saving the moeny and all but high school is rough people WILL scratch your car and what not... You may be a good drivers yet odds are against you for a wreck in your first years of driving and just think about it, why wreck your dream car. So just wait a couple of years, get another standard car for now, and get some practice. Time flies man you'll have that evo someday, no big rush.

when i was 16 i thought my 89 mustang 4 cylinder convertible was fast (like 120 hp at the crank). i did plenty of retarded things with it. and really didn't wise up and understand the danger and consequences in things until i was at least 25-26 (i sound like an old man pointing a cane at someone).
i'm 28 now.

at your age. for just simplicity purposes and not necessarily practicality reasons (I am grossly impractical even today), I would consider something like an SRT-4 (neon) or a WRX. their much more affordable. cheaper to maintain. faster than any car I owned until I was well into my 20s. and still would be the most bad *** car in your high school. just a thought.

also when i was 16, you couldn't tell me anything. i just had to post, i guess.
