SE Lip: can be it removed?

Winter season is quickly approaching, and I've only had the EVO a few months. On top of raising the coilovers, I know it won't be enough to keep the front end from turning into a snow plow, so I was wondering if the front lip on SE front bumpers is removable.

And I mean removable to the degree that it won't look stupid without it. Is there a complete IX bumper under there, or will it look like I ripped off the bottom of the bumper with no SE lip?

yeah its removable. there's probably about 20 short screws holding it to the bumper kind of a pain thou since you have to remove the undertray. you might be able to do it with the bumper on the car but ive never tried. Also you wont be able to use your undertray since that mounts to the lip.
I'm from michigan and i run my SE lip in the winter with no problems.

hmm....well **** is like fist height off the ground, and with the coils raised it might go up another inch or so. And when it snows, I plan on being out in it for every waking moment(thus why I got an awd car), so if our winter happened to be like this past winter (12-15 inches) then I'm screwed.

If you raise your coils up, you should be fine.

I understand having AWD is a huge plus for those of us that have harsh winters...however, if the roads your driving on have that much snow on them you probably shouldn't be driving on them anyway.

Driving in high snow isn't that big of a deal. School and a job still require it and life must go on. You should be fine with the lip still on - raise it up the highest it can go

I wouldn't even raise it up... because then you'll need an alignment, then when you lower again you'll need another one... by the time you know it, it would just be cheaper to buy a new lip in a few years IF you even need one.

so they say. I changed the height of my 07 GTI twice a month for autocross then slammed it in between. Never had any alignments aside from the initial installation and it drove just perfect.

just change height to stock or 1" all around you'll be fine btw, i would spray coils with wd40 to keep them coaked, depends on the coils otherwise springs will start to lose paint and they become rusty looking ones, hmm if you remove the lip how that will prevent you from getting stuck in snow??

what do you mean "so they say" do you understand basic suspension geometry. Think about what happens with camber and toe as you raise and lower the car and factor in the tire wear.

well it's only an inch roughly lowered and raised, and I can understand how it changes your camber but the tires wore down evenly in the 30k I had it that way.
