What would you do? Fender Install
Hey guys,
Just wanted to get your opinion on this. Im having a new front bumper and fenders painted this week. Would you guys just drop the parts off and then install them yourself or would you just have the shop do all of the work (paint and installation)? I've never installed fenders before so i dont want to screw it up. I'm trying to save money but Im not sure if I should do the install myself. It's not too much more to have them install the stuff but still, times are hard lol.

Best way to save money...Do it once and do it right. Have the bodyshop install everything. Fenders are relitively easy but you want everything to line up and you don't want to scratch them while doing the installation. The front bumper is cake, the bodyshop should charge you very little for the install of the bumper, so little I'd say it's worth it to have them throw it on.
Now on to important matters, what bumper and fenders are you throwing on ?

Installation is easy and will save you money. Just take your time and be careful with the fenders as they distort very easy. For this reason alone, I would personally install them myself and then take it to be painted. This way you can take your time and get it right.
Alignment is easy for fenders. Just leave all the bolts lose once you have the fender in place. Then check the gap along the door and tighten the corresponding bolts. Then close the hood and make sure the fender is even with the hood. Tighten the remaining bolts.
Even the "good" paint & body shops are never going to take the same amount of time and care that an owner would.

The question isn't how hard it is to disassemble the body panels. Its recommended that the fenders be blended into the hood and possibly the doors to ensure the color match isn't noticeable to the eye.
The reason the bumper (and sideskirts/mirrors/spoiler/etc...) can be painted off the car is because they are not flush with the other large panels, therefor the lighting angles are different no blending is necessary.
hope that helps

how much are they charging you to paint fender?
I just got used fender and need to sand-prime-and spray. Sand and prime is going to be my weekend project(look at my sig)
I'm planning to take off my stock fender and take it to paint shop with my used fender. I really dont want them to install it quick and mess up the fitment.
Will cop pull me over if i drive without fender?
