Tired of drama-queens whining because their car is not 100% perfect?
Well, my clutch went out, but so what? I built the power up, so I have to build up the drivetrain as well to support it, the cost of speed addiction. I love the car, its a blast to drive, will walk a new M3 at any speed, and give Porsche owners conniptions through corners. All that and I can carry 4-5 people, a ton of crap in the trunk, and still have that cool whoosh sound as 20#s of boost dump on every shift... not to mention that I can race in the rain... heh...
I love my car, I have had the clutch go out at 2,500, and the paint chip problem. But I still love it. The car is by far the best handling car I have had. Vette, 2 prelude sh's, z28, ta. None can compare to the control the vehicle has. And performance wise through the first 2 gears I can't be beat.
I don't think people should flame people who have had probs though. I love the evo, more power to everyone who has not had probs. I have voiced my problems, but I have never bashed, or mouthed the car. It's my second most prized posetion, a close second to my wife who allowed the purchase of my evo.

I'm still not sure what to think about the whole clutch 'issue'.
While the clutch is not the best thing in the world performance-wise, I am just about convinced that if you treat it right, it will treat you right.
I will be fully convinced if I hit 10K and my clutch is still holding strong.
People burn out their clutches every day in all types of cars. I'm sure EVOs will be included in these 'statistics'.
There are way too many Americans that can't drive worth a ****. If there were major issues, wouldn't we have heard it from the UK, Jap, and AUS guys?
Then again, did they design it differently because they knew the un-informed hot-rodding Americans would be drag-racing this RALLY car and they wanted to protect us from ourselves? If you abuse a car, something's gotta give eventually. Why not make the weakest link the cheapest link?
My 2¢...

1600 trouble-free miles for me, except for rock chips on the front, but hey, they're rocks after all. I've launched it a couple of times, and I agree - you gotta pay to play. My clutch is fine. I LOVE THIS CAR!!!! I seek curves now with a hunger.............

Glad to see someone is taking responsibility for his/her actions.
We need more people like this!!!
If you were still stock, blaming Mitsu could probably be justified (IMO). Some of the people who whine are not stock. Glad to see you know the difference...
You have to pay to play...
(Am I sounding like the automotive version of Barney yet?)

I have 6000k miles and not ONE single problem or any signs of them (KNOCK ON WOOD). I have no signs of a wearing clutch and I love the car! I feel that alot of the people who have the "bad clutch" are abusing their cars. I am not saying everyone so please don't try and flame me for this but I do beleive that alot of these people drive their cars extremely hard and don't realize that they caused the clutch to go bad. I imagine people are tyring to do AWD burnouts and launch the car for drag racing and this is hard on the clutch. If mine ever goes I will just get the Exedy Twin Disk which would be a good upgrade anyways but until then I am happy as hell. To anyone looking to buy and Evo don't be discouraged about buying one because of what a FEW people on here say. Realize that for every 3 or 4 guys that are having problems with theirs that there are hundreds other that are having no problems at all. The rust issue that was pointed out seems to be coming from everyone on the East Coast which wouldn't suprise me with the salt on the roads over there who knows though it only seems to be happening to silver cars which could have something to do with the paint. All in all though I have no problems and I love this car so don't listen to what a few people have to complain about. Its like they expect this car to be perfect and problem free. Its a car for crying out loud. You drive it and you put wear and tear on it and act like it shouldn't be showing any signs of it. Give it a rest.

My car is modified, but not abused.. I do agree that you have to take responsibility for your actions and that many of the "problems" we hear about are probably DEU (A technogeek term for Defective End User) I do have two problems that were out of my control.. And I couldnt care less
The two problems are the paint is easily damaged, and easily chips.. The second is that the "Tanning" on the leather on the steering wheel is beginning to peel off.. Perhaps its because I drive with sweaty hands gripping tighly in the same position all day.. I easily have over 10,500 miles already.. Making well over 300whp

Thanks for a thread like this. I am soo sick of all the griping about it. If I were Mitsu, I'd regret bringing it over if all I ever heard was this crap. The car is not perfect. You have a car that performs like a $50,000 car in most cases and better in some too. If you want paint and interior like a $50000 car it will cost $50000. It's that simple.
Here's my rant from a few days back. Same ideas - more smart-*** answers...
