Issue with shop. Need advice
Ok so I took my evo to this local shop to get fixed since I got in a crash recently. I paid the shop 500 straight out of pocket to do the work on it since it was my deductible and used the rest of the insurance money to buy parts that i needed and some other parts i wanted like new turbo, etc. Now I understand the smart thing to do was to wait til the car was completely fixed before i spent unneccessary money. But I figured since I paid for the labor and bought the parts on the quote i would be fine.
So now the shop calls me and says make sure you dont spend all the money because you might need radiator supports, but my money is already spent. And I told them well I paid you the labor and im bringing you all the parts that the insurance quoted as damaged and said if you need anything else you need to tell the insurance. The shop owner tells me its not his issue and thats my issue.
The shop seems kind of shady to begin with and Im kind of regretting taking it there now in the first place. But am I right? Shouldnt any more unfound damage be reported to the insurance and not to me because i already paid my deductible?
Also what else is around the radiator and intercooler that was damaged that he could possibly say needs to be replaced now. I just want to know if he there is anything else around there that he could possibly say was damaged.
The damage to that area was intercooler, intercooler support bar, bumper beam and radiator. I already bought the intercooler and radiator and paid for him to repair the intercooler support thing and told them i didnt want a crash bumper beam anymore. So should I have to pay anything else or should the shop call the insurance place if they need more money?

Well, the way you did it is kind of tricky to work with, because it's tough to account for money spent, but certainly nothing new. Generally, if the shop finds it requires more work than the original quote, they need to submit a supplemental claim, which then the insurance company will approve or not. And then they should cut an additional check.

i wouldnt say what i did was shady. i bought all the parts i needed just used so i got them cheap. which left money for the turbo. so i would call that smart shopping.
worst comes to worst i sell the parts but i dont think that i should have to pay anymore money. i paid my deductible and everything that needed to be fixed anything new the insurance should now pay.

I just had a car repaired after an accident and additional damage was found after they started to tear it down and work on it so the body shop issued a supplement to the insurance company. The insurance company appraiser then reviewed the claim and approved it. They paid the body shop directly for the additional work. So yeah, they should contact the insurance company rather than you doing their job. If you have to, contact the insurance company yourself, but I'm sure they'll want to hear or get documentation of the additional required parts/repairs from the body shop.
If the check went directly to the body shop they body shop will take care of everything. In this case, you took a check for an estimate of repairs. Its your responsibility to contact your insurance company and let them know what the body shop you are at is telling you. Then if it is approved you will get the difference needed.

ok let me sign in on this account. I called my insurance company for you def(statefarm). this is what they told me. Basically since you the user needs more money you would have to call in and tell them first why you need more money. YOu really should be calling your adjustor. Then either they or most likely your shop will have to call them and tell them why they need money and what for. He will then come back out there and verfiy that more money is needed. Once that is done he will file a claim for more money and then CUT THE SHOP the money directly. Problem solved right?? HERE is the problem first of all you bought all the parts so if the adjustor decides to question why the orginal amount was not enough if the shop is not on your side they can say we dont know he bought the parts. Secondaly i understand this smart shopping you speak of you basically tried to sway the numbers of the check in your favor to buy anew turbo. which in all accounts is completely stupid. You should have held on to the money and got the car completely fixed and moving before you decided to buy anew turbo etc. You should not have a problem with them cutting the shop some more money its all depends on your adjustor but dont be surprised if the shop does not lie for you and they come at you to ADD UP ALL THE NUMBERS and want all recipets for the parts that were bought so they can add it up to cover the first total amount they gave you.
bottomline lesson learned go though the proper channel as i just explained to you and if you have i would sell the turbo just to be on the safeside. You can always buy it again once everything is worked out but if they smell foul play then i dont want you to suffer the results.

read my post man and understand it im trying to help you out man cause your cool people. It does matter if the adjustor wants to account for all the money to see how it was all totalled up to no funds left. AGAIN it depends on the adjustor they are all different. This is what my state farm rep told me so im going off what they said could happen. AGAIN you could have a adjustor that just does not care lol its happens. But again your dancing all over the fire and you might get burned. play it safe and when its all done get that nice turbo
if you have enough for a green maybe you should consider GOING RED but again lets get the car moving first.
