Latest issue of British magazine CAR

The latest issue of the British magazine CAR rated the Evo #14 on it's list of the 100 best performance cars int he worls. This is due to it's exceptional balance, handling, control, and sheer fun factor. I love this car, and have owned several BMW's, and VW's. It's a joy to be carving up back roads, getting all of the feedback you need from such a well-sorted Chassis, the AWD creating the ability to do things that would kill you in many cars. It's a little disheartening sometimes to read all of the whining about the car not being up to honda build quality standards, or the fact that an SRT-4 can beat the car in a drag race....immaterial if you use the car for it's intended purpose, going fast where there are curves and corners, and not as some sophmoric phallic extension of your ego...want something like that, just go buy a cobra and lightly mod it. Anyway, my 2 cents. I'm a happy evo owner with a healthy clutch, no paint problems, etc. An all around great experience so far.

It used to be #8, but the Ferrari Enzo, Lambo Gallardo, etc. bumped it down... Still - imagine #14 in the world. Nice. The 2.0L STi was in the 20s, also very good.

Thanks for the heads-up on the magazine article. I try not to buy every issue becuase they are so expensive, but anytime there is a little info on the Evo, I try to pick it up

Wow...14 out of 100!!! Those 100 automobiles are all the best of the best to make that list I am sure! Chris as you mentioned, recently being dethroned from # 8 to number #14 by the likes of the cars you listed is a small rpice to pay to play at that level.

I don't want to derail this thread, but I have to tell you that while I was getting the Evo sealed per the recall, I was able to take a pre-owned 02' Z06 for a test drive. The car was awesome btw, but in some ways very similar to the Evo.

At one point the salesman asked me what I thought of the steering and handling, and I had to tell him that it felt very similar to the Evo only with a heavier steering feel. I think he thought I was crazy, but obviously he hasn't wheeled an Evo yet either.

Overall the Z06 was probably actually a little more comfortable than the Evo and the go-kart like steering response very similar. Power was....well you know...405 hp of v8, which just kicks serious *** for sure!

If I were looking for a 2 seater, I know what I would own! Until then the Evo stands alone as one of the best choice sedans, for the hard-core enthusiast with a need for space.

Btw Hagakure, where did the M3 and S4 fall into line?

Thanks again!

It is not a performance only rating either.

example the BMW 330d sport is in 7th place.

M3 19th
the s4 avant v8 is 44th

I have driven them and they rock!! tons off torque (enough to make the car a great drifter) and the get double the milage of the 330i when driven hard. I know it's hard to understand here in the land of cheap gas (and equal deisel gas costs) but high performance and deisel go hand in hand for the rest of the world. Would you want a deisel EVO? what if it had 400lbft of torque (and 275hp) from the factory?

400 lb ft of tq and 275 hp. That sounds like your typical American V8. THough that is starting to change these days. I guess all those years of yearning for the American V8 feeling, and this is how they go about it, diesels...

Diesels absolutely rule in europe now. 60% of new sales are diesels. But to rate a 330d over an Evo, a M3 and a M5 means that performance is not the most important criteria. Unless the whole torque is more important than power myth is taken over Europe.

Its wild that a car of the Evo's stature (history of the manufacturer, mass produced affordable Japanese cars), can be compared to cars that are for the elite only. I cannot wait to make 500 horses with it, eventually I will....and just rip on cars worth 5-10X as much. It feels good to be considered one of the most fun vehicles to drive.

I like the Evo better, but the Cooper S is more tossible due to it's shorter wheelbase!
