Thumbs up Rattle Resolved

Well, I ve read that alot of EVO owners including myself have experienced rattling from the passenger side pillar. The culprit is that the front passenger door's lock does not sit flush wit teh locking ring on the frame. Since my freind had this problem resloved from another dealer, I told them waht was the cause of the problem. They tested teh car and moved the locking ring a few millimeters in, and it solved the problem. Finally I can drive in peace without the annoying rattle.

Bring it to the dealer to get it fix. It took less than 15mins to reposition the ring.

If this topic has been posted sorry for taking up your time.

Do you have more info on this? I want to do this tomorrow.

My rattle sounds like it's coming from somewhere where the passanger front door meets the a pillar.

Exactly. I had the same annoying rattle from the same area in a RHD evo. Taking all the interior trim off and driving the car back and forward the rattle was still there, open the door and do the same and it's gone. I thought it was the door panel and proceeded about trying to bash the hell out of it in order for it to stop. Eventually a guy pointed out it could be the position of the door ring not fully closing and the fact that the clasp in the door is made of plastic so could rub/grate. With a marker pen I drew around the position of the ring, then, wth a lot of effort (those screws are tight,) I undid it. It's not slide adjustable as I thought it would be, it's fixed in place, I simply pushed it as far as it would go to the left then screwed it back tight, it moved a couple of mm... Fixed, no annoying rattle click click tap! Also you should put a bit of grease on it as there is none.

Do you have any pics of this lock ring? I too have this rattle and it bugs the hell out of me, after only 600 miles and I don't feel like bringing it in. So the lock ring is behind the door panel?? it doesn't have anything to do with the pillar?

Thanks in advance

Turn your passenger side seatbelt lock around so that it fits flush with the pillar. When someone gets out of the passenger side the lock usually ends up turned around 180 degree's. Turn it back around so that it lays flat and the rattle will go away, this is why its always on the pass side, because you are wearing the seatbelt on the drivers side. At least this fixed the rattle on my car!

My theory is that the lock is not sitting correctly which causes it to rub the locking ring on the B billar while driving. I sprayed some lubrication to reduce friction, and that seems to eliminate if not minimize the rattle.

i posted something about this about a week ago. but I had the rattle LEFT side A-pillar.

remove a-pillar cover
find connector below tweeter
notice if the wire below the connector has an elbow kink in it.
Get some foam adhesive insulation from home depot. about .75 - 1 inch thick, peel and stick on one side. wrap that elbow kink with it. and maybe the connector too. replace a-pillar.

worked for me.
