Detroit Auto Show Fiasco
There was a really nice guy working the display, but he only knew some basic performance info...A couple people approached and starting asking questions he could not answer - so I took over.
I've learned so much from researching this website that I could not believe all the info that I was instantly able to recite. I hung out for about a half hour answering questions for the public that this guy couldn't.
He was a little freaked out when I started commenting on the easy and realitively inexpensive modification paths that could be taken

Yeah, I got the same thing at the charlotte auto show. Some guy who didn't know his *** from a hole in the ground telling me how great the Evo is. He didn't believe mine was in the parking lot, he didn't even think they were on sale yet.
how do these people get jobs? i mean really. they are probably making some pretty decent money, they should know their product. that's what really gets me at the dealer. its THEIR JOB to know the cars INSIDE and OUT. i walked up to an srt-4 to test drive, and the salesman starts off with "i'm sure you know more about this car than i do" to which i replied "and its not even my job". how they sell ANY cars is beyond me.

"Uh no, I OWN one."
"OH REALLY?! What kind of probelms do they have blah blah blah."
Needless to say, I helped the guy out and gave him tons of information for his little speech.
Not surprising.
The last 3 or 4 new cars I bought I knew more about the car than the salesman and manager did. They just want a sale and don't care if they B.S. you. It's your job to research the facts. A lot of salesman move from dealer to dealer selling cars.

I've always thought I should honeymoon as a car salesman. I've never met a salesperson who knew more about their product than I did. I guess it's just a small group of people like ourselves that just LOVE cars. I like 'em all for the most part, and I like to know as much about them as I can.

Most of the people that stand near the cars at a carshow to answer questions are merely 'talking heads'. They are often hired just to stand next to the vehicle and look nice and answer basic questions. Their job is a temporary one. Sometimes they travel the car show circuit.
But they are rarely filled with the knowledge of an enthusiast.

My wife is a talking head
She's worked for GM, Porsche, Izuzu and a couple suppliers...She may be working for Subaru next year.....Anyway, compaired to most of us, she knows very little - I still love her, and she looks really good next to a 911!
If she knew as much about cars as I did, I would be really freaked out
I love knowing more than the dealers and sales people, it gives us a little leverage.

Auto Show
I went to the Detroit Show on opening day last week. The guy on the stand sounded like he was reciting a memorized script. I had better things to do than to mess with him. I was also kinda pissed that the Evo on display had a low wing.
At the LA auto show I waited for Brian McKnight to distract the lamborghini rep so I could see if the doors on the gallardo opened and to touch the engine bay (the mercialago was in the middle and untouchable). I didn't give out Evo info but touching the car of my dreams was kinda cool.
lol i was at the LA Auto Show also, man the Porsche GT was SEXY. The Mitsu area kinda sucked... I went the first day around 3pm and I saw 2 STI's in the parking lot 3 evo's a brand new mercedes, a new range rover, a ton of the cars i went to the show to see! lol =) It was good over all I liked some of the new models and stuff. Subaru really embraces the rally heritage of the wrx/sti but mitsu is like "here's a cool looking car check it out" they don't really do anything for the evo ;x it's disappointing
I was disappointed by the Mitsubishi exhibit in Detroit. The only cool thing they had going was the Eclipse concept. I was hoping for a big Evo display, and maybe even a real rally racer to look at- but no dice.
