I agree. Strengthened and extended a few un-noticable inches.

The existing FMIC may not pass crash standard tests, but I seriously doubt the Evo will come to the states without one at all. That's just me of course.

Who said that the Evo was losing the aftercooler completely?

God this rumors forum is such fun.

I find it hard to believe that they would not still keep the IC on the front. Every Mitsu press release states that they want to bring the Evo here as unchanged as possible. As far as I know, the US crash test requirement they were worried about was the 5mph crash that is supposed to have zero damage to the car. The current intercooler might have sprung a leak, but would still have survived intact. All they would have to do it reinforce the front bumber and maybe go for a slightly smaller IC to move in further back. The IC has to stay in the front because I don't think there's room anywhere else for it. The WRX has in on top mainly because they use a horizontally opposed engine that sits lower, which gives you room on top. They really would have to spend alot of money on engineering to move it somewhere else even if they had the room, which they don't. The rest of the power loss will probably have to do with the cat for US/CA emissions. There might be other small changes since they are going to release it in the US as the Evo VIII.

*Sigh*...it isnt the fact that it is a FMIC, it is the size that matters, after all, the side mounts on the DSM's are really still in the front. It will shirnk either way, and at that point it could go in front of the rad. , on the side, on the roof, i dont care.
The other thing, that has been said before, is that the HP rating is insignifcant. DON'T WORRY! I would rather have it rated at 200HP. A $45 boost controller will take care of that, and as far as the insurance co. knows, the car has 70 less HP. Done. I'm happy. Who cares about the rumors, or final specs for that matter? Anyone still?

Silly puppies. Why are you guys all worried about IC and boost this and that. has already claimed that the Evolution will have more than 250BHP. The only thing you guys would ever need to worry about is if you will have the money to get one and whether or not you'll actually get one next year when the car is released.

The Nissan Skyline GTR series has a FMIC and they are legal here.
The bumpers just need to be strengthened, that's all
Did you know that MotoREX had to take out the FMIC, drop the boost significantly, let it pass crash tests and emissions, and then put them back on before they sell it?

If the GTR can pass crash and emission tests without changes, they won't need all the modifications before making them legal.

It's not the front mount that's illegal. It's the size that will cause problems for crash tests. SRT Neon might have it nextyear, and it will be small and doesn't get in the way of anything.

Basically, we won't have a large CENTER FMIC like the Japanese EVO7. It will be shrinked, and moved to the side of the bumper. Still Front mounted, just to the side and at a smaller size.

Precisely. PLEAE MITSU, RATE THE CAR 200HP! Please lower the boost and further restrict the exhaust! PLEASE! People just don't understand how easy this is to fix, and how it is actually beneficial.

I swear this rumors forum does more harm than good. Everyone thinks they have some "inside" information to share, when in fact it is just recycled speculation with no basis in fact. I generally don't mind discussing various rumors, but when they are taken as fact, and then conclusions drawn from them..this is when I have a problem. People are formulating their ENTIRE opinion about the car based on completely FALSE and MISLEADING rumors. It is sad, really.

Ahh well. I will have an Evo when it is released, and I care not for the rated hp.

" OH NO HE DIDN'T" Relax Mordeth. As has been stated many a time it really doesn't matter. The car will come. It will have all the parts it needs RUMORS aside and be rated at least with 250BHP those are guarantees. Focus on what you think and don't worry about the chickens who are running around with their heads cut of

Don't worry we are getting the FMIC, the bad news is that in order to reinforce the bumper the turn signals have to be removed in the front. What this means is you will have to use hand signals when making lane changes and turns.

This is most unfortunate for people who are missing their left arm. According to California DPS," drivers who are missing their left arm will be required to travel with a passenger in the rear drivers side seat to make hand signals for the driver."

I'm glad my left arm hasn't been amputated.

I am plenty relaxed loneeemeeeee. I actually agree with 100% of what you said, in both this post and the last one you made in this thread. Not sure of what you are getting at here. Thanks for the insight though.

Just trying to let you know that the "Rumors Forum" exists to generate excitement although it usually generates false facts. Thats its job I mean aren't most rumors bad anyway think about it, which is why the Rumors Forum really doesn't matter. I hope that cleared things up.

Uh. That is pretty much what I just said. So thanks for clearing up what I already understand!

I think the misunderstanding came when you thought I was being sarcastic about asking Mitsu to rate the car with lower HP. I was not being sarcastic. Was being serious! I have stated this numerous times around the forum, and in fact the guy I was referring to was actually originally referring to me! Rate the car at 200hp! It doesn't matter, was my point.
