Cracked windshield...
A semi threw a rock at my windshield and lo and behold, cracked the crap out of it. It spread like crazy, and now I need a new windshield. I'd prefer an OEM one, but am open to suggestions. Am I the first windshield killer out here? Just need to see if the regular Lancer is the same part.
Same thing happened to me outside of Savannah except I think it was a piece of re-tread. I got a new winsheild that day for $180 installed. I went to Savannah Mitsu, and they called a windsheild guy who gave it to me for the dealership's price. I think that your windsheilds are thinner in the evo's to save weight, so I'm willing to be you'll be paying more.
I'm pretty sure just the side windows are shaved thinner in the Evos. Serious safety implications of a thinner windshield. Anyway, if you're going to get a factory replacement, I'd strongly suggest getting windshield coverage from your insurance. I've always had that option in both CT and MA and in MA its free to replace or fix it. The windshields on these cars are really week I think though - they chip and crack very easily from what I've seen/heard.

I feel your pain, although mine wasn't that bad but it happened 4 days after I pulled the car from the dealer's parking lot. I was really pissed, I do have a chip right in front of me but I'm trying to get use to it. I hate it though. Hope you find it quickly.

Meh. I just called the dealership per 330's suggestion, and they told me they are two different part numbers and the system shows two different weights.
I went with an aftermarket shop, though. $255 installed on site. If I look out the office window, they're putting these big suction cups on my OEM window as I type this...

Its guaranteed to fit with a lifetime warranty.
I've got a little baby crack, maybe the size of my small toe's nail... got it the first week i had the car, i'm too lazy to get it replaced even though it's free... maybe if it gets bigger i'll think about it..
We had the car less than 48 hours when our windsheild was hit by rocks falling off a wide load truck. We were 2 lanes over, but they were bouncing all over the place! Windshield is cracked badly, passenger side mirror has a bad chunk our of it, and the front lower grill is dented and missing a body clip.
Of course, the guy didn't stop.....we tracked him down. His manager states that they are required to sweep off any construction equipment and truck for debrise. We all know everyone follows policy...right?
The insurance adjuster pretty much said we were lying. If we were 2 lanes over, there was no way the rocks could hit us. I forgot that rocks bounce in a straight line. (I hope her car got hit on the way home! )
Anyways, I found a Lancer windsheild installed for $150, but I heard that the Evo is lightened. Checked with Mitsu and it does have a different part # (MR-991637) for $452.56 retail. This doesn't include installation!
Does anyone have any info that confirms the EVO uses a lightened windsheild? My deductible is $250 and I didn't want to hit my insurance.
