Yea, that's a really good price for all that. Do you know if he replaced the head gasket when doing those head studs?

Hell, a really good new set of cams can run close to $570 or more...

So is a $500 install for cams common? I was looking to do cams soon but damn that is expensive. That's not even with a tune!

I would say 500 is a bit high. I've seen many people getting charged around 250 300 for the installation of cams.
I would "hook" you guys up but due to forum restrictions I can't advertise for anyone...sorry

I do not see a problem with $570?

Its so funny to see everyone in here whining about how cheap that is. Its the greedy shops faults labor rates are as high as they are. I am assuming that the guy that worked on his car either owns the shop or did it on the side.

You have to remember that when you take your car to the big shops you are not paying $85 an hour labor to the mechanic working on your car. You are paying $70+ to the owner of the shop and the rest to the actual mechanic and shop supplies. So its safe to say this guy made his money and is plenty happy.

Some words of advice to all you "whiners" Learn how to work on your own cars or stop complaining about paying high labor rates. Easy as that.

While I agree to a certain extent about learning to wrench on your car there are some things that require specialized tools or a little bit more extensive knowledge that the average DIYer can't do or doesn't have. I consider myself an avid DIYer, but there are some things that I will leave to the professionals due to fear of tearing it up myself and causing more harm than good. I paid to have my cams and clutch installed. I would normally have done the cams myself but due to being away from my house and all my tools it wasn't feasible. The clutch job I definitely paid someone else to do.

As far as to the OP, that price is a serious hookup. I paid more than that just for my clutch install.

I totally agree with you, many shops like to rip us off just cause they know how much we pay for the parts. When the see anyof us pull up the see the 1k-3k dollar rims and tires so they jack the price up. I have had mechanics do the same on some of my cars. Had one guy install an alarm cheaper than at his shop just so he could keep all the money.

You got a great deal and I wish I could get the same, forget what everyone else says. I wish that I had a hook up like the one you got, congratulations!

i hope your car doesn't split in half like "Herbie" ...price is a stoopid for the labor. Approx 16hrs of labor he charged you $570? Does he own a shop?

I've installed every single thing listed and for the amount of time and energy it takes, $570 is a beyond a steal. BEYOND. Maybe the guys just loves working on cars as a side gig...if it's his shop, it won't be a shop for long at those prices.
