04 evo III, auto and manual mode

Hey guys, I have a totally noob question. I just picked up my 04 evo III today and I see a auto and manual mode right next to the e_brake. I am assuming its the intercooler sprayer? What I need to know is when to use it?
Should I just push auto when I start the car? if not when to use it manually? Sorry about the dumb question but I couldn't find any thing on the forum. Also feel free to give any advice or suggestions on tuning the car. The car has 49k miles on it. I am changing the oil tomorrow. For B.P.U I am getting cat back, down pipe, drop in filter and m.b.c and getting the car tunned very soon.

Any other service advice such as when to change spark plugs, what kind of spark plugs etc...etc. Appreciate all your help. I am thrilled to be part of this community and hoping to learn a lot from you guys.

You can use it if you want, but it really won't do anything. I took mine out and make a mega cool "ram air" thing for my intake

add a cat delete pipe or high flow cat, as well as a new lower intercooler pipe to your shopping list. You will also need a boost gauge if you don't have one and a walbro fuel pump.
