rear diffuser a replacement for rear spoiler?
I believe theres no replacement for the spoiler, and interesting to know what motor trend said, I mean if the car was engineered a certain way it was probably for a good reason. Sometimes I think if an evo never came with a spoiler then everyone would be putting spoilers on instead of removing stock ones. It's part of the cars signature to me. I would think the spoiler diffuser combo would be best. Just my two cents
Other than that - weld or bondo and repaint. . .
Or you can go the expensive route to fix those holes - first remove the lock mechanism. Then remove teh 4 bolts holding the trunk on. Then toss it out. Then intall a carbon trunk. Then re-install the lock mechanism. . .
There are hundreds of pictures on the forums. Try searching for Aero, Aerodynamics, Diffuser. . .
The is no clear cut answer to which one is "the best" as they all have not been tested back to back to back for downforce and drag. . .
Many will say that the Voltex rear diffuser is probably the best as it has actually been tested in a full scale wind tunnel as well as on one of the fastest EVOs in the counrty. . .

I'm currently wingless, but only because I had to fix the flaking clear coat. I used black vinyl from a vinyl shop. If you ask them for some scrap they have lying around, they'll probably just give it to you for free. All you need are some quarter sized circle cut-outs anyway. Its a cheap, but not permanent solution.
correction** the stock spoiler produces 68lbs of downforce at 100mph according to motor trend which quoted Mitsubishi. I went back and found the article. I was wrong when I previously said 50.
