Um, hello new EVO owners that know jack about the import tuning industry? HKS MADE their company off the 1/4 mile! Their best known for their drag cars. HKS isn't into tuning "safely" as some new companies like to say they do, because that's not the Japanese way of doing things. They build big, elaborate machines that have ever square inch of them examined and perfected to be the ultimate machine, most of the time in the 1/4.

You still need a good suspension for good 1/4 times, I guess you guys don't get out to the track much. Ask Mr. Reitman about drag cars on tracks, I think he knows a bit. He takes his 10-second DSM to open track days all the time. As far as people who don't like the 1/4 turning their noses up at it, it does take some skill but it's different skill than other forms of racing. Reaction time, shift points, tuning, are all difficult to master. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's inferior.

...

I think the Japanese tuner mentality is very very conservative compared to the world-wide tuner market (probably too conservative in this case as many of the mods appear to be an overkill for the power levels)...

Just to let everyone know, HKS JAPAN built one of the fastest EVO VII's in the world, which ran a 54 sec time at Tsukuba circuit awhile ago.

HKS used to be my favorite brand in the late 90s - but in recent years, I've had bad experiences with their products. For example the HKS WRX uppipe had bent flanges and didnt seal at all. The carbon ti exhaust peeling etc. Later I learnt that HKS is now producing a lot of their parts in Taiwan instead of Japan...which could result in the poorer quality control. Another issue I have with HKS is that their electronics isnt as user friendly as other brands. Just compare the HKS EVC to the Blitz SBC-ID... world of difference in terms of user friendliness. And the fact that the HKS F-Con S or Pro cannot be tuned by non-authroized HKS tuners. No one else will have access to the Powerwriter software to tune that piggyback unit. I had a lot of HKS stuff on my wrx, but on my evo, i have none. The only 2 things that i may get from HKS is probably the BOV (which is still the best in the market imo) and the HKS circle earth kit.

Motor Trend is the cheesiest of the big US magazines. Always posting numbers that no one else can match. Makes you wonder? Plus they always cater to the "if big is good, bigger must be better" crowd. I bet most of the subscribers are in Texas. I am one, but only because it was $9/year or something silly.

I agree, HKS did this just to show the parts are available and to get someone with TOO much money to be impressed and buy the kit. The guy that buys it is going to get a royal screwing, that is a fact.

The point of this car from what I can see is to improve power. From the list of parts they surely spent the majority of their money on making more power. Hell, that turbo kit alone is over $5,000. The V Pro is about $2,000, FMIC is surely well over $1,000, exhaust is well over $1,000, BOV, head gasket, boost controller, custom pipe work etc. Like I say, the $15,000 was mostly spent on power making. To only put down 280 and run high 12's is sickening.

Our Stage 4 kit is only $4,000 and it would walk all over this car even running 94 we ran 12.09 at 115 mph. Still on the stock turbo and such.

Also, about those numberous 8 second cars out there for $10,000. I would like to just see ONE of those!

It's great how nearly every car in the past 15 years has improved with age as the motor is broken in!

Some of the so called ringers out there probably were in fact just broken in Evo's that were up to their full potential.

And tuners sometimes even get some of this credit, becuase you do a base line when the engine is fresh and stiff, then as it loosens up and fres up horsepower you slap a chip on their and WOAH so much more power, and due credit isn't given to all the factors.

I went and looked on that site of 8 second drag cars and couldn't find one for $10,000. I thought you were talking about building an 8 second car for $10,000 and I also thought you were talking about an import car. This would be an impossible task.

Sorry for thinking too much,
