Bringing my Evo II to the USA
^ That's one way to go, but still not as simple as it may seem.

-MILITARY AND U.S. GOVERNMENT CIVILIAN EMPLOYEES returning from extended duty outside the Customs territory may include a vehicle that conforms to all requirements among their household and personal effects duty free. The vehicle must have been purchased outside the USA and must be in the owner’s possession before departure. Extended duty generally means 140 days or more. Personnel aboard a U.S. naval vessel or who support a naval vessel on its departure from the USA to its return with an intended 120 day or more overseas deployment are entitled to this extended-duty exemption. If you sell the conforming vehicle within one year of importation you will be required to pay duties on it. You must pay duties at the Customs office most convenient to you before you complete the sale. Once formal entry is made for the EPA, a conforming vehicle so imported may indefinitely stay in the U.S.

94 so 2016, which will be 5 years after I get back. The more I research it the more I looks like I will be selling it before coming home.
I am planning on heading to Texas when I get back. If I can't bring bring it over as a race car then I won't do it. I just need to talk to someone at the US shipyard.

I will say this only once, There is no "legal" way to get one registered here in the us.
I had an evo 1 and drove it for over a year in the states.
The reason people do not share their info is because it is all illegal even if it has been issued a state title it does not comply with epa and dot standard and really never will because it is not on a list of production cars for the usa.
You can have a state issue a vin and title as a kit car and even have it say cd9a evo 2 but it can be siezed from you at any moment due to the reasons listed above.
People are getting away with it with mirage vin swaps and state issued titles but they will always be wondering if it is going to get siezed or not.
The best way to do it is to convert it to lhd with a mirage vin and firewall etc but even then it is not completly legal but really only you could tell on yourself.
People get them in to the usa by contacting a importer in canada and having them drive over the border to do the transaction in the states so then you are on your own after that.
Now that I have busted the bubble on how to get a rhd car here and drive it on the street it is up to you to find a solution that works best for you.
I can think of 5 evo 1-3's in IL alone so they are out there but the owners are tight lipped

Ya, I am not that die hard enough. I figure I will drive it while I can and just have fun with it. When I get back in the States I'll just have to get another sports car.
Maybe it's time for something American...
nah.

if i were you, i would find out how the drift guys get their cars over here for drift events.... i know they allow cars over here for racing events...maybe you can figure out a way to claim your coming over for a race, letter your call all up to look the part, then just take it all off when you get here, and hide the car

Great info
thought it was easier than that...
I was interested in this too. I did my research and it seems car has to be 25 years or older to bring it here. Another way is to part out the car or cut car in half and ship it half and half (front clip, back clip)and register as kit car.
Also I saw company that ships skyline in parts somewhere and it was around 80k to ship it over here(but you have to put it together)
