the other day i just turned on the accessory stuff with the key to check the radio, and i heard several loud click/ticks under the hood, near the intake manifold! car was not started so it was not anything to do with fuel, ignition, or the like.


thoughts?

 

Bad ground somwhere?

 

Relays/fuses in the underhood fuse box.

 

not happening near the fuse box- like i said it's like around or behind the intake manifold...
unless mitsu decided to put a fuse box there

 

james when was the last time you started it? was the sound like when youre loading a new flash? maybe your evo hasnt moved in so long youre just paranoid.

or maybe its a really small, dog. almost too small for its abnormally large asian owner...

There's a solenoid somewhere near the manifold, I forget what it's for, part of the IAC circuit maybe? Anyway, mine makes a ticking noise, like a soda bottle that's not quite closed, and is "fizzing" slightly. I usually notice this after I've had the key in position 1, acc, but without starting the car. That's my vote. If you're really worried, post a sound sample of it.

 

yup thats it...my bad thought it was when he started the car.

 

Every Evo 8 I've seen does this from time to time including mine. Nothing to worry about. I forgot exactly which selenoid it is, but it's totally normal and not something to concern yourself with.

 

If its near the intake, the only thing I can thing of is the fuse box under the hood right next to the intake.

 

The underhood fuse box is right next to the battery/intake mani.

 

I have 9 and makes this sound too. I thought it was normal sound

 

it is a normal sound. my tiburon did it along with my 03 lancer oz rally. i was told its a sensor in the throttle body. mine does it when i turn off the car as well.

 

It is the heart of your Evo...Make sure you keep it on a low fat diet, preferably high in fiber. Studies have shown that Evos do especially well on high corn diets (E85 or the like) with a bit of water.
